Believe it or not, I find that the passionate songs are the hardest to write, because I put so much pressure on myself for it to be good. If I feel passionate about something and want to convince people, i want to make sure that the song I'm writing is extremely deep, powerful and doesn't fall back on tired cliches to get it's message across. It's really quite difficult, I find.

That's where the "written legal permission" comes in. I still have the emails. The lawyers of Comcast and Ziff Davis both wrote to YouTube letting them know that I had permission. I assumed that as Big Media Lawyers, they'd have access to the key people at YouTube. But as I said, even with this express permission, the videos we still removed, the infractions were still leveled, all because the content ID system doesn't take these kinds of things into account.

The content ID system may be amazing technologically, but the bureaucratic implementation of it is not. From high profile examples, such as Sony calling "copyright infringement" on "Put A Ring On It" on Beyonce's OWN channel, to a number of similar things that have happened to my account. I've gotten written legal permission to use clips of myself that were technically owned by Comcast and Ziff Davis, only to have the clips pulled and "two strikes" leveled against my channel. I even had one of the infringement strikes cleared up, only to have it pulled again a few months later, all thanks to the bumbling blind robot that is the content ID system.

I know I don't really have that much of a right to complain (it's a free service, after all), but I just thought I'd vent my frustration. Argh!

Hmmm. I don't feel like I'm avoiding anything. I write songs everyday about what I feel like writing about. Sometimes they're political, sometimes they're not. I make choices in my daily life that I believe contribute, however small, to making this world a better place to live in. But when it comes to art, I believe one should follow their heart. If your heart is in making art about changing the world, then do it. I just go where my heart takes me.

It's weird that you would reply here and not on the song that we were talking about before. I'm sorry if I came across as being somehow bent out of shape; I'm not. You're entitled to your opinion. If you don't like my songs, by all means, please don't listen to them. I assume though, that you haven't listened to all of them. So I don't know how you can pass judgment on my "songs" when you've probably only listened to...what, 3? 4? 10? I've written thousands of songs, most of them available online. The fact is that, statistically speaking, there will be at least one of my songs that you'd like. Or not. Whatever.

One other thing. You seem like a pretty reasonable guy. I say that based only on the fact that you can spell and form coherent sentences (a step ahead of most trolls). Why on earth would you go around making comments like the ones you're making about my music? If you have genuine feedback, say it. Tell me how to be better...whether or not I agree, I'll listen. But if all your going to do is essentially say, "Your songs suck, give up now", why are you wasting my time? And yours?
