Just after I read this, I found a link here http://ikimasho.net/2015/02... shows a map someone created of all the railways in Tokyo Which may prove useful. Google maps has the physical maps of the rail network, but not the logical mapping of what trains run where. I find http://www.hyperdia.com excellent for giving rail times and connections for any trip.

Re: Wasei Eigo: I Can’t Believe It’s Not English!

What an excellent list. One I'd like to suggest is "Grand Open" for opening event. I don't think Soft skills is specifically Japanese, I've heard this used before I came to japan in management training courses. It sabot about the stuff you really can't teach or measure.

Re: The psychological addiction behind Facebook’s success

you can't find any more recent studies that one done ten years ago ?

Re: Japanese Bar’s Drunk Shaming Campaign Gets Wasted

You realize you are about six weeks late with this and it's already been exposed as a fake

https://medium.com/race-cla...

Re: What Are Those Stickers on Japanese Cars?

I just renewed my driving license and in the lecture in Japanese you have to attend (whether you understand Japanese or not ) they displayed these signs. I wish I'd known this before we gave away our really expensive toaster in the UK.

Re: Healthcare in Japan: Checkup Options | Surviving in Japan: (without much Japanese)

I've just had mine done last week. I forgot the instruction about not eating for 12 hours before the test, so I had to go back a second time for the blood test, ultra sound and barium drink X-ray. I really don't enjoy the barium drink experience. The rest of it I'm fine with, but do I really need to have that specific test done every year? what exactly are they checking for?

Re: a guide to heaters in Japan

We got a couple of gas heaters originally. we bought them from Tokyo Gas after our first year here. You need a special gas outlet in the wall, and they also needed to be plugged into an electrical socket too. They give out a lot of heat, but they we didn't like the smell they created and with the two cables they were a bit cumbersome. Also, the gas didn't seem to be any cheaper than the electricity, so we ended up getting rid of them and getting a couple of electric oil filled radiators instead.

Re: 6 ways to find English-language books in Japan | Surviving in Japan: (without much Japanese)

well there's always the second hand bookshops GoodDay books in Ebisu, Blue Parrot in Takadanbaba and there's a really good Book Off in Shirokandai near Meguro. It should be going paperless.
If the airlines can do it surely the trains can doit ?
The way forward is to have it all stored on your phone then you have endless ways to display all the information you ever need and just wave it at the turnstiles as you sail through.
Lets face it, it they are never going to replace all the existing software and printers to make all great looking mockups that people have produced. lets look to the future!

Re: Budget Trouble: Show Me Japan Vol 1 Issue 30

I'm NOT showing the beautiful side of Japan, but it's a story that needs to be told.

Re: Bicycles: Blue Folding bike

bicycle? what bicycle ..;)

Re: Budget Trouble: Freezing in Japan

This is one of my pet peeves too. I delight in asking Japanese if the is a word in Japanese that means 'insulation'. I always get a blank look in return!

The other excuse I can imagine is that houses are not built to last.. everyone wants their house to be NEW, so a lot of houses get demolished after a short lifetime... which is no excuse, but makes it cheaper to build if you don't expect it last long.

And then of course the ever present threat of 'the big one' when the earth moves and the whole lot ends up in a pile of rubble. So what's the point of building to last anyway?

in the mean time I'll shiver and complain in winter and sweat and whinge in summer.

Re: Report: In Japan, Facebook Not So Popular - DesignTAXI.com

and how exactly does FB enforce the 'real name policy' ?

Re: Inside a Book-Off in Shibuya

there's a branch in Meguro somewhere that has a lot of English books.
