My heart felt condolences go out to the parents and friends of these young people. No deserves to be victims of this type of senseless act.

If the parents of these thugs have any other children, they should be taken away; they are obviously unfit for the job. I've seen case after case where the parents choose to ignore the obvious signs of gang membership. Willful ignorance. Why not teach the kids while growing up, gang membership is a bad thing.

Hey, let's build more low-income, gang-breeding hovels! Oh yeah, the city council voted to do just that downtown!

A friend of mine was recently hit on his motorcycle while stopped at a light by an unlicensed, undocumented and under insured driver. The driver ran two red lights and rammed him in the side. He suffered broken bones to his foot and will be OK, but it could have been much worse.

An amazing thing about the driver's wife is she spoke English until the police showed up to investigate; Espanol only from there on. That's the ticket, hide behind the language barrier.

What if the driver had hit and injured or killed a pedestrian or a bicyclist who isn't covered by uninsured motorist insurance? They or their their family would be paying the expenses out of their own pocket. This BS is becoming epidemic.

I believe if you are caught driving without insurance (that's anyone, white, black, brown, yellow, green...), your car should be towed on the spot; it shouldn't be on the damn road in the first place. It's not like the drivers don't know, the friggin' DMV handbook comes in 42 friggin' languages. If the driver can't bail the car out, it will be sold at auction with the proceeds going to a fund for families suffering the expenses caused by uninsured motorists.

And, if the driver is hear illegally, he/she gets a free, hand-cuffed ride to the boarder to be handed to Mexican authorities. Period.

They are endangering lives of legal residence and citizens.

My rant because this has to be brought to the forefront, not buried in fear of being called a racist.

Please, this is a real issue.

Yep, and here in MH the theft and murders are usually perpetrated by the low end Mexican population. And, we have the growth of gang violence. Where is that coming from? Bad-boy Mexican gangs!

I married into a Mexican family. My wife's parents were migrant farm workers who came in through Texas 50 years ago. They always stressed working hard and doing well in school. All the kids are successful and one a Stanford grad.

When my wife and her siblings were growing up there weren't problems with gang violence, and they lived in a mixed race, working class neighborhood. There a still a lot of Hispanics growing up, working hard and doing well. But, it now seems we have to deal with the influx of roaches, the gang members and their low-life mentality. It seems like they don't care about a better life and don't care who they drag down. Like crabs in a barrel, the ones at the bottom will drag the ones at the top trying to make it out back down. Just like anywhere in the world, the breeding ground for gang members and people commiting the majority of crimes is in the low-end neighborhoods. And, here in Morgan Hill, like Gilroy, it is the low-end Mexican community. You can't ignore that fact.

Let's work to stomp the roaches so we can all live better.

I hope the parents will escort the young offenders to the courthouse so they can explain to the judge why they can't control their kids. Take them out of society and put them in a bootcamp style detention center to teach them some manners and respect for the community.

I hate to seem harsh, but why is it up to me to subsidize housing for people who aren't responsible enough to make sure they can provide for their own family? I see a lot of "low income" people pushing strollers with multiple kids in tow and another in the oven. Where does personal responsibility come in?

P.S. My wife grew up handicapped in a low income Mexican household that was never subsidized. Her parents worked hard and supported the family to make sure they had a better life.

Tie this building up of downtown MH with the proposed low income housing in the downtown area. The city council is twisting the intent of measure A to do it.

Are these guys smoking the stash the got from the medical marijuana club that recently opened in Gilroy? Hey, maybe they'll want to open one downtown next to the Java Hut. Or, maybe a medical marijuana kiosk in the newly widened median, right next to the bocce ball court.

This is complete BS. The voters didn't approve Measure A to allow for 500 "low income" homes to be built. We were told this wouldn't happen. If the voters had been told the 500 units would be BMR housing, it would never have passed. We were told "we want to attract foot traffic with money to the downtown area". If these idiots (like Ordonez) don't re-think this, we'll end up with the morons wearing red shooting the morons wearing blue and visa versa in the downtown area; and the only money will come from drugs.

Hopefully MH will seriously consider what Mr. Oliver is questioning here.

You can sit at a lab bench at Ragoots, have a glass of wine and study the situation. You don't need no stinkin' models and simulations to tell you what life would be like. It's happening right now in real time; study it.

I think it's time to get serious with these punks and their parents. Have the young b#$%rds stand in front of the Judge with their parents. The kids can explain why they are doing what they are doing and the parents can explain why they can't control their kids. Make the parents be responsible for their kids or send them to a boys home; or better yet, a boot camp like institution in the friggin' desert. The parents obviously are not capable of providing a clean, nurturing home life.

The kids are headed for a life of thuggery and crime, so where they spend the next couple years really doesn't matter. 16 year old garbage will turn into 18 year old garbage, so get them out of the community for the good of the community. LO HS should not be disrupted by these young jerks. The students are there to learn, enjoy their friends and to better themselves. They should not have worry about ducking for cover because the moron N'ers and S'er can't seem to understand what it means to live in a civilized society, within the confines of the law.

Thank you WERC for your efforts in getting Hope back in the air. I'm lucky enough to live in an area where the red tails live. I enjoy watching them circle above in the hunting mode. Maybe that's why I don't have gophers, ground squirrels or mice.

From your comments, it sounds like you want the US to be just like Mexico. Gangs, drugs, corruption, poverty... With the natural resources and under-developed talent, Mexico should be a prosperous nation. Loose the corrupt politicians and law enforcement, clean up the gangs, educate the people, then you may have something to be proud of.

p.s. 36Million doesn't make a majority in this country.

My lovely wife is Hispanic and her whole family is gang-free, her brother even graduated from Stanford. With that said, you have to consider race here. I don't agree with blanket statements, but the gang violence occurring in MH and Gilroy stems from the low-income Mexican community. That isn't a racist thing, it's reality.

If there were a bunch of trash white boys or Asian bangers shooting up the community, where should the police focus their energies? They should focus on the target rich environments and not go snooping around Eagle Ridge Country Club looking for mis-parked golf carts. Those "target rich environments" are low-end Hispanic communities.

I don't care what color my neighbor is as long as he/she respects the community.

Yep, for me it was curfew only. As I said before, maybe the laws have changed since the early '70s. If you are doing something stupid whether deaf, not an English speaker or what ever, comply. Chew on this, if you are not an English speaker, but doing something illegal, you know it and you are cornered by police with a dog. You see the cops and dog, what would you do? No matter what language you speak, you know what you are supposed to do. Comply or get bit period. No sympathy here.

Nope, no felony. I don't do felonies or any crime for that matter. I could have been an idle threat, or the laws were different back in the early '70s. I wasn't a bad kid, I just did a couple stupid young male tricks.

I'm not saying the cops may not be telling the straight story, I'm just going what I read and not trying to read anything into it. Not knowing if a felony was being committed, possession of a deadly weapon, I would hope the cop would protect himself. The young men were stupid and got themselves into a sticky situation. 3 complied, one didn't and got bit. Maybe next time, hopefully there won't be one, he will not be stupid and comply.

Take a look at the roof next time your by it. There are air-conditioners and other items that can provide shade at 3:40pm. If I'm out on my deck on a hot summer afternoon, I welcome the shade as the sun moves to the other side of the house.
