I applaud Paul's courage to take on the lack of patriotism shown by conservatives. Conservatives are the first to wrap themselves in the flag and take issue when someone acts "unpatriotic" as defined by them. The Olympics have been a source of national pride for those who host them. Reagan was an advocate for the 1984 games in LA and even though the Soviet block chose not to come in retribution for our boycott of the 1980 games in Moscow, it was yet another victory over the Soviet system...... When Rush, Beck, et al want Obama to fail and gleefully gush when we lose an event such as the Olympics, it makes me wonder what is more important to the conservatives - being in power or advancing the United States in the world arena. I dare say the former seems to be of most importance to them and it is shameful.....

Bill, do you work for the defense industry or just have millions of shares of Boeing, General Dynamics or BAE stock? So we are still using cold war weapon systems to fight the wars of the future? SDI is not proven and unless we invest more of borrowed Chinese money to fund it, we might as well shelve it. Any other Republicans to throw under the bus, maybe Lindsey Graham, since he slighted your spokespeople yesterday?

Oh yeah, she never lies, she never accepted money for the bridge to nowhere, lied about pressuring the Public Service Commissioner on firing her bro-in-law, firing the police chief and librarian as mayor, lied about having trade mission discussions with the Russians,denied that the Alaska Independence Party supports secession and denied that her husband had been a member; in fact, even the McCain campaign noted that the party's very existence is based on secession and that Todd was a member for seven years.

You seem to have a bad case of neocon revisionist history and the side effect of denial...

I recall the previous administration and their stellar picks for office as well as our inarticulate President, who had never been to Europe or Asia prior to his presidency. No wonder you all see Palin as the next coming, someone with less qualifications then GWB...

So our medical system is utopia, Charles? Do you live in Rochester and go to the Mayo Clinic for your medical needs? I spent a month there doing an internship in medicine many years ago and might agree that that system is obviously one of the best in the world What data do you have to say that everything you predict will come true? My mother-in-law had knee replacement surgery in NM and damn near died, due to poor hospital care and inept surgeons. We had to move her to Midland TX to save her.... So the quality of care you describe is spotty at best. I am tired of the right throwing out labels..... Grow up....

I had an argument with Hinderaker about this very topic four years ago when he was whining about GWB and how he was the most pilloried president ever. I provided quotes, printed t-shirts and other factual data on the right bashing the hell out of the Clintons that put to shame his trite coments about anti-GWB rhetoric.... Now we have complete idiots posting polls on Facebook on whether BO should be killed. This is civility? God you people make me sick. You lost the last two elections so you choose to be obstructionist and petty? Why don't you wrap yourselves in the flag and complain how the rest of us are unpatriotic, that is your usual modus operandi.....

Just last week Canada graded out at a "B" for health care, whereas the US garnered a "D" and the lowest overall rating of 16 countries rated. I have had several close relatives in the US go through hell with pain and were passed from doctor to doctor before they were treated properly. For every case highlighted here, there are hundreds of thousands in Canada that are successfully treated. Had Ms Woodley changed jobs in the US or lost her health insurance, she would have been sh&* out of luck getting an insurance company here to pay for her treatment.... So if you think health care is not rationed here, you better do your homework....

At least I have had intelligent discussion on foreign policy instead of conjecture and blathering...... So your spokespeople were lucky to graduate from high school - Rush, Hannity and Beck - and every school is LIBERAL. If that was the case, why would neocons waste their time going to a post-secondary school? You all should be auto mechanics or work at Mickey D's since higher learning has no place in your debate - you are all worse than what you make Obama out to be, you just love to bash and bash and promote nothing new.

I did not miss the paragraph, but was making the point that appeasement in the form of national interest is not necessarily what BO is doing. Rather, he is trying to move away from the "might makes right", damn diplomacy, full speed ahead with the attack style of foreign diplomacy practiced by the neocons. To use points like "bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia" is rather ludicris, as the former Bush president hugged and kissed him..... As the son of a parent who graduated from the Georgetown School of Foriegn Service, I have had the opportunity to listen and learn about the art of foreign diplomacy and policy.....

What about his support of the aparheid government of South Africa? Was that supporting democracy? How about Pinochet in Chile or the Conras in Nicaragua? Then Bush supports Karimov in Uzbekistan, Mubarak in Egypt and Musharaff in Pakistan....No regard for human rights in these countries, because they did not matter to us in the alledged Soviet Union policy...

It is always OK for conservatives to support dictators when THEY see fit, but when someone states that democracy can't always be imposed everywhere, they go ballistic. Another example of the hypocritical right. Ranks up there with the morals they profess, but don't care to follow like my buddies Craig, Vitter, Sanford, Ensign, et al....

No one was more "unbound to history" than the Bush administration. They failed to recognize the Shia/Sunni divisions in Iraq, so when we won, we had no plan to keep the country from imploding. The right is still fighting the Cold War and wants to spend trillions of dollars on defense systems so their friends at Boeing, General Dynamics and every other defense contractor can make obscene profits. Where are the nations of NATO in building a missle shield in Eastern Europe? Why are they letting us bear the cost and the responsibility? The horrible policies of strike first, ask questions later, has isolated us and forced us to pony up all the money, troops and resources to fight the terrorists in Afghanistan and around the world. Every empire has its rise and fall and doing it the neocon way is the surest way to bring on the fall....

I especially appreciate the words that the man was civil and had a sense of humor. The lack of civility in the protests and I dare say in many of the people who post here is depressing. It reminds me of the comedian talking about Americans in foreign countries, who think if they talk English louder, the French, Germans, Japanese, etc will understand it. I assume Mr. Kristol did not enlist name-calling, profanity or snarky language when writing in the WSJ or in his essays.....

.Not a fan of Bill Kristol, but still may his father rest in peace...

In college they teach you to llisten to someone elses point of view, debate with civility and to think with reason, not emotion..... Calling someone names is juvenile and doesn't work to convince anyone that you have valid points in a disagreement. So GWB didn't use cocaine and was most likely an alcoholic? What is your point in calling out BO? Is your character flawless? Was Reagan, Kennedy, Ford, Lincoln?

So what is your response to Glen Beck and his rant about healthcare and his blantant flip-flop? Democrats are not allowed to flip flop without getting hammered, so why not your own spokesperson? Or how about Rush saying any drug user should go to prison? Why is he not serving time? I guess the simple minded and the uninformed are like sheep, easily led astray. And how many billion was this missle defense system costing us? Why don't the Poles or the Czech's pay for it? We cannot afford to be the world polliceman anymore, not with the problems our economy has today. I saw a $12 billion antiballlistic missle system built in the 1970's shut down one month after it became operational - Who shut it down? Gerald Ford - your guy!!!!!

I have a news flash for you - we cannot be the one to "save" other countries from perceived failures - Iraq and Afghanistan are killing us and we are in the fall stage of the American empire. Every decision made by the current administration may not be a good decision, but the alternative from the GOP is no decision/obstruction. You can reverse a bad decision, but to do nothing will always kill you in the long run -
