I'm glad to hear your "suck it up" tone. I agree with Phil Gramm's assessment that people are "whining", imagining a recession which still does not exist by definition, and expecting the government to fix a market situation.

However, I don't agree with you that forbidding oil companies to seek out more oil at this time makes sense. It will be years before the new oil even has an impact on the market, and less foreign dependence is a good thing. In the case of a politically motivated oil crisis like the 70s, we'll want that oil available as soon as possible, lest America suffer truly catastrophic damage.

The text itself is a "beautiful testament" to the truth of his words? I don't care what your friend said, choosing not to read something is choosing ignorance. The intellectual should study all views and draw conclusions from them himself, not rely on the views of his best friend. If I bashed Christianity but had no familiarity with church or the Bible, that would make me ignorant. If i made arguments such as that the Bible was "crap" instead of actually making rational arguments against it, I would be speaking meaningless hot air, much as you are right now. Explain why she is wrong.

In my experience, my quote is still true. The Paul rally is not the best sample set of human beings. Some of my friends growing up were Rand followers and my CEO likes Rand.

The "described" version of the commercial is nowhere near as good as the real thing. Plus, the whole 1984 relation was based around it actually being 1984. Seems like a pretty flawed method of running a focus group.

I've been to Burning Man and think it's great. I think Fox News is largely despicable and that this clip was stupid, but completely unremarkable and not really that offensive.

Where does all this "violating the sacred respect for the dead" stuff come from? The guy killed himself at Burning Man, and his friends thought it was art. Outside of the comparably infinitesimal amount of people who actually knew this guy, it's pretty funny. I'm sure you've never laughed at a Darwin Award or anything.

You're overreacting. They aren't even making fun of the suicide so much as Burning Man itself. And their position is pretty normal regarding it, not quite as ridiculous as you let on. You're just blowing this out of proportion.
