What a joke. Stand by what you say unless you are ashamed of it.

Re: The Late Late Show: Gerard Hannan versus Frank McCourt

REMOVED - HOW COME?

Re: Frank McCourt dies aged 78

Be very careful Kilbarry1 - If you say something on LIMERICK BLOGGER that is perceived as being in some way pro-Hannan then that means you are Hannan. The moderator will allow any criticism to be levelled at Hannan.

Re: Frank McCourt dies aged 78

Funny. Anybody who says anything favourable about Hannan becomes Hannan. Thats hilarious.

Re: The Late Late Show: Gerard Hannan versus Frank McCourt

I have serious reservations about the authenticity of this so called attack. Interesting to watch this because it accurately reflects the venom some people had towards this book when it was first published. My understanding is that Hannan was a radio broadcaster in Limerick at the time and his radio show was listened to primarily by elderly people, namely, McCourts generation in Limerick. It seems Hannan was a self-appointed McCourt critic and also published a book or two in response to McCourts publications. I remember reading Angelas Ashes and, as it happens, I actually liked the book but I do recall thinking, when I first saw this on the Late Late Show that maybe there was as much untruth in this Live appearance as their was in the 'memoir'. The fact is McCourt did not answer any of these questions but just waved and kicked and out-shouted Hannan but never actually answers other than to admit to using false names, vague memories and writers license. It seems to me that it was all a storm-in-a-teacup and both writers seem to gain booksales wise from all the publicity. I think the whole thing may have been a publicity prank. Just think about it. You cannot do this sort of thing on live TV and get away with it without some sort of prior consent. At one point in the footage the camera pans back to Hannan at a serious moment and he is smiling contentedly as if he had 'delivered' as promised. McCourt later said that he was 'ambushed' by Hannan and Kenny and this seems to imply that the event was pre-arranged. A lot of people seem to have fallen for the stunt and when you read the comments on this page, interestingly all negative against Hannan, they are from 'young' people who know no different. I wonder how older people feel about it.
