Only flaw in plan is that 1 single e-mail turns into a series of other e-mails. API. Specifications.

Yes, you can, it all depends upon how you code. Lots of sites and applications already capitalise on these features.

With any language, it depends upon how you use it. You can already cache code and data, what you cache and how you code the cache, should enable you to repeat and rinse. I agree that there is no "easy way", no "HTML TAG" to do this client side, but with cookies, local storage with cached javascript/css, you can do what you need to. To make a distinction between HTML and a Javascript load is false. They are co-dependent. They are both interpreted. Isn't the difference between an HTML <include> and a Javascript <load> purely semantic?

Location is still in it's infancy. A nightmare. It is getting better, more so on mobile devices, but again, what we have to work with is enabling a lot of people to build the next generation of apps.

For example: I am English and live in Spain. Try to localise me!!! How? The language I speak? Which one? The location I am in? The app or web page I am using? The app or web page I am reading? The information I want to obtain? All variables, all interchangeable depending on what I am looking for.

I use a mixture of both languages, locations, information and programs/services. What we have available enables me to utilise all, trying to second guess what I want is impossible. I may want the menu in Spanish, the location in Spanish, the language in English and the app/service in English. Or, I may want the menu in English, the location in English but the language in Spanish and the app in Spanish. It all depends upon where I am and what service is best... It is tricky I agree, but I should be able to have everything.

Localisation is almost a walled garden in your definition, it will fail when the choices and information are best served as the provider sees fit.

A screen capture is too general a statement. What you are actually talking about are snapshots of interpreted code. The overhead for this more than likely outweighs the performance, hence the developers didn't build it the first place. What good does it do the user, other than add more overhead to the performance of the device/software?

Peer to Peer is useless without a centralised server. It simply doesn't work. The centralisation of the server can be as small (or near) or a big (many users) as you need it to, but you still need a server.

I can see where you are coming from with your arguments. To say that they should all be client side, I think is wrong. Some things will always remain server side, it is a 2 way conversation. To have more control, often leads to less options.

Lea, I tried abysmally to make these points in 140 chars or less, then I got caught up in a telephone conversation, hence the delay in my reply. But, 'you little minx', server side is good and not everything needs to be in the hands of the client. We'll never get away from the dumb terminals, nor should we ;)

Re: Adobe Communication - Matt Legend Gemmell

Good call

Re: The Ghetto Called Facebook

I think you are missing one important point.

You mention AOL as training wheels before everyone left for the rest Internet. I know a lot of people on Facebook who simply don't know how to use the rest of the Internet. Still. After all these years!

Facebook have done a great job building a platform that a lot of 'untrained' people can access very easily. Not only that, a lot of their friends are on there and interacting. It is a small part of the Internet for me (I'm a developer and have been here pre Google) but still an important one.

Family, old friends, new friends, I can all access them via Facebook. Hardly a 'Second Life' as you call it, just a utility, like the telephone. Except with pictures, videos, music and more.

Your voice means nothing to the 500 million+ who regularly use and enjoy the service. If you can build something better, then do it. If not, then do what the rest of the tech savvy world do and use the rest of the Internet, dipping back into the 'training wheels' when you need to communicate with the luddites.

Re: Social Media on Fox News – The Future as we know it?

Excellent. Not everybody likes it, probably for some of the reasons mentioned above.

Maybe they shouldn't have called it retweet, 'Like' could have been a better word to have used.

It's a shame that transparency will always be lost. Human nature I guess. Still, from what I understand, sites like http://tweetmeme.com will be able to track the original source of a tweet should that be as important as twitter think it is.

Lists & Retweets within the space of a couple of weeks. Twitter is certainly getting more interesting. Not only for the users, but the developer community built around it...

Re: Setting up MGTwitterEngine with YAJL 1.0.6 for iPhone development

I've followed your instructions and now when I compile, I get this...

Library not found for -lyajl

Command /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/usr/bin/gcc-4.2 failed with exit code 1

Can't find anything on the Internet to help me out. My Twitter stream is much better because of it. I used http://tweetpromote.com to unfollow everyone. I then used the same website to find the best ones to start following again.

Well done Scoble!

Re: Should I unfollow everyone on twitter?

I've done this recently too, for various reasons. At first, I wanted to see what sort of information I could gain from having a Twitter stream following about 5,000 accounts. I found it to be information overload. Twitter recommends about 2,000 (hence the 10% follow limit) and I've found this to be about the best. You can refresh and still catch a lot of information before it disappears. I'm now following only 626 and will build it back up to about 1,500 over the next few weeks...

I've found Twitter is used in a number of ways. For me, it is about finding quality links from quality Twitter accounts. I use my website (http://tweetpromote.com / blatant plug i know) to find these accounts.

Don't be afraid to stop following a lot of accounts. Some will complain and stop following back. There loss not yours.

Incidentally, I follow @justinparks, which I class as a quality account ;)

Keep up the good work, always a pleasure to read :)

Re: Tweet Promote

Yep, I can see you are now following hundreds of like minded people in a matter of minutes.

Twitter only allows you to follow about 1000 accounts per day, and with new accounts like yours, it is sometimes as low as 500. Still, Tweet Promote has already saved you a hell of a lot of time and you can always return tomorrow and in the future to follow more.

That is why my tag line is "the fastest and most powerful way of finding targeted friends and followers on Twitter. No automation, no robots, no spam, just quick and simple exploration of the Twitter users that matter to you."

Enjoy and good luck with your site. I'll plug it again during the week when more people are at their computers (it is 1am here in Spain).

Re: Tweet Promote

Forgot to mention.

Log into tweetpromote, go into your profile and add lots of keywords such as "developer, web, html, programmer, coder, coding, programming, jquery" etc.

Then click on the friends option, find my twitter account, click on my image and then click the explore button.

You can then explore all of my friends where you'll find lots of web developers, use the filter options on the right hand side to view "tagged, no follow back" (i.e. people who match your keyword tags but who are not following you) and you'll be able to follow a couple of hundred developers in a matter of minutes :)

I follow about 2000 coders and industry people, including lots of iphone developers, web developers, jquery programmers etc. Tweet Promote should easily help you reach more people like me if that is who you are looking for.

Re: Tweet Promote

Thanks for that Brian. I think I've tried to be a bit too clever with the navigation and keeping the server load down to a minimum by making a lot of it ajax. Users expect another page to load instead of everything loading inside of the same page.

I'm working on an update to the interface and it should go live tomorrow. It will address all of the navigation problems that you have seen tonight.

Launchly is cool, all you need is lots of sites on here and you'll be rocking :)

Re: What’s The Most Underhyped Twitter App That You’re Using?

http://tweetpromote.com <- new site, no bots, no automation, just fast and simple exploration of targeted twitter friends and followers.

Re: 10 Twitter Tools to Organize Your Tweeps

Another new one arrived a few days ago http://tweetpromote.com

Re: Enough Already: MLM Invades Twitter’s Trending Topics

why don't they simply employ somebody to sit and read the trending topics? their job would be to highlight and eliminate spam. simple.
