an idea:

quit this lame job, move to chicago and be my pool boy. the pay is low, but here's the incentive: for every 10 leaves/bugs you scoop out of it, you get a glass of lemonade. for every 50 leaves/bugs you scoop, i'll add a shot of vodka to your lemonade. if you happen to scoop out a condom, or a needle, or something equally gross you get a bonus of a fish taco or a bratwurst.

think about it.

When I worked at a bakery a bar opened up the street from it and while it was under construction the owners of the bar would come in to the bakery to get coffee and pastries and chit chat. They were nice, kind of sorry looking middle guys. They liked to tell me that their concept for the bar was "a sophisticated, adult lounge" without all the "raucous hipster youngsters" that had taken over the neighborhood. Then they told me they were going to call their bar "Plan B". I laughed for a good long time, which seemed to confuse them. I said, "That's supposed to be ironic, right?" They didn't come back to the bakery after that.

Two notes:

a. how could they NOT KNOW WHAT PLAN B IS?

b. even aside from the irresponsible sex connotations, Plan B is a horrible name for a bar. Because it implies that you had a Plan A, which was better but fell through, so this is what you settled for.

They should have hired me as a consultant.

The Westboro Baptist Church is in Topeka, Kansas, which is where my mom grew up. There's a stretch of a downtown street where members of the church are always out protesting with their "God Hates Fags" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" signs. Every time time I visit my grandmother she takes us to her church with her and driving down this road is the most direct route, so we always pass these crazies. Last time I visited there was a counter-protest going on across the street from the Westboro people that had at least twice as many people as them and were carrying signs that said "God Hates Fanatics".

Kansas is an interesting place.

I dislike hot weather too, mostly for the reasons you already described. It makes me feel all ruffled.

But every summer, about mid summer, after weeks of 90 degree days I usually cross a threshold where I no longer care about looking put together or classy or refined and just start wearing the least amount of clothes possible. This is the point where t-shirts as dresses come in and I cut my most beat up jeans into jorts. You can really tell when I've gone off the proverbial summer deep-end (about mid august) when I start coming home from work and changing into my bathing suit top to hang out in around the house and on the porch. Towards the end of the summer I also occasionally stop wearing shoes in the backyard, around the neighborhood, and at other people's houses.

I guess what I'm saying, Eddie, is that I'm happy to hear you're breaking your own boundaries. Also, come to my kiddie pool party! No tweed allowed.
