Wow, how things have changed. I remember when it was Google Suite, Resova, and Square---there may have been more, but no idea what they could have been. The whole entertainment/performance software is a whole new world I hope to get more opportunities to play with soon. Also, that MarginEdge tool sounds interesting, I wonder if you think it might make sense for the hosting?

Damn, good for you! And I can really relate to the analogy with depression given it is real. I relate to the idea of feeling like you have to hide some of this, but at the same time once you accept it and say fuck it, all that other noise melts away too. Now I am just freaking jealous, time to bring this craze to Italy—-and the price should be reasonable :)

That is pretty awesome, so are the events essentially posts on the blog for the events page, or is that something else? We pay a fair amount for the WP Events calendar, and I have not been as happy with its visuals, wondering if this might be worth experimenting with.

Damn, 172 pounds? I haven;t seen the lighter side of 200 in 3 decades, that is really impressive. Kudos. to you on maintaining that healthy living, it will only pay dividends down the line. As for the basement project, I am all in in that one, I definitely want to see that space transformed into something awesome---in fact that has been the most fun thing I have done over the last decade, transforming spaces with you, so let me know where the road is headed, captain.

I think 2025 is already shaping up to be a winner for you, and damn you have already accomplished so much leading up to it, blogging more would be amazing because I need your streaming knowledge, sensei!

What a tour de force of a post, I laughed, I cried, and at the end I cheered for your return to the light of edtech. Fun is where the magic is, and I am here for it.

Also, the way your 30 year career mirrors the vicissitudes of edtech is pretty wild. I feel like I only really recognize the web moment, but there is more in heaven and earth, D’Arcy. I want more on laserdiscs and VHS!

Thanks for this post, it has helped me put in perspective some of my current struggles with the field and my increasingly marginal role within it.

It was amazing to experience it first-hand without seeing or knowing significant detail about any of the work, I had ideas, but the work you did far exceeded all expectations. The performance space is amazeballs, and the space makes 50+ people in there seem like nothing, it is really well done. I also love how the the inital pieces of Reclaim Video and the living keep a sense of consistentcy while the arcade itself just reflects the growth and awesome you have built. A huge huzzah to the entire Reclaim Arcade team, you have built something truly awesome in Fredericksburg (and beyond), and the city has lived up to the idea of "If you build it they will come" -which is amazing and the ultimate testament to everything you've done. #4life

Wow, if this conference did nothing more than inspire you to blog again, well then the verdict is out: it was a success! :) It was amazing seeing you in Freddy, my only complaint was it was too short! Reading your re-cap here gave me goose-bumps, and not only cause you are so articulate it scares me, but also because I think you tie the pieces we had no idea would come together so well perfectly in this post. It was an opportunity on a small scale to reflect what is, was and will be, in many ways a simple goal but I, like you, need it because I am experiencing much the same angst and concern over the work we have done becoming not simply irrelevant, but impossible going forward. I know our work was always niche, and I enjoy that actually, but the idea that it would be impossible to have the space to experiment around these modes of communication and connection at a university in the near future (even now) highlights a different kind of hell that is directly related to many of the cultural, political and ecological issues that were everywhere present at Reclaim Open.

Those before and after shots are not only amazing cause of the subject matter, but the quality is brilliant, and I love the way you line them up as thumbnails and they still pop.

Also, the API stuff you are doing for the Reclaim Community space is so groovy, I dig that stuff so much. It's like more sophisticated RSS, with all the good and bad that means for the wrangler :)

Optimism #4life! I really dig the idea of person2person optimism, an idea of the P2P web that likens the idea of unmediated technologies to unmediated connections that are more personal and personable. The idea of not always looking darkly through a scanner at the world we inhabit, whether virtual or otherwise. You know I am loving this blog renaissance, and I think being energized and excited about what you do makes everyone and everything better. There is no shortage of doom and gloom, and sadly all too much of it bonafide, but it's what we do in the face of it to pushback is where the rubber really hits the road and where critique meets praxis.

This is a really nice trick that I actually used for my blog's LEMP environment on Reclaim Cloud that wasn't even using a load balancer. Given it was Nginx this same code in a redirect.conf file worked to finally pushing all http traffic to https cleanly. I was banging my head on that for months when I moved it a year or two ago, and thanks to this it is finally fixed. You never know who or how what you write will help, so thanks!

Wow, 20 years! It must have been 16 years ago that I came across this humble blog that helped me figure out how I might approach my own "edtech career" on the blogosphere, alongside other long-in-the-tooth bloggers who happen to have made comments above :) I too love the idea of using the blog space as a place to play, experiment, and just feel like you have your own little weird corner of the web, no matter who comes to visit. It's the closest I'll ever come to being a small, local weirdo of ideas on the web. Here's to 20 more D'Arcy, and thanks for everything you have given all of us over the years. I am a big fan!

Now I am going down the rabbit hole of what Alfred is, I know Tom Woodward turned me on to Quicksilver back in the day for Mac, which was automation tool, so is this similar? I do love folks who automate stuff cause I am just the opposite, I just do the same repetitive task over and over again, I am a born beauracrat

Doom in Docker is everything :) I am going to have to watch this stream on Kasm Workspaces because I do thing this could be a brilliant way to frame the Cloud for remote lab work. Love that you streamed your playing around, my traveling to NYC threw me off my stream game, but I am resolving to get back on the horse next week, and now I have something to explore.
