Soundcloud is always a bit hit-or-miss since they don't have proper artist fields (they only have track name and *user* name). We make best efforts, but unfortunately it's hard for the more obscure tracks. :/

Make sure you have some of the plug-ins installed and/or configured. If those tracks are findable on those services, then they should go from gray to playble.

You may want to try a little hack that we made at http://spinb.in. It let's you add playlists of a number of radio stations and websites that update regularly.

Hypem is a data provider - look in "CHARTS". Hypem doesn't really host any content themselves, so their lists are resolved against any/all content plug-ins you have enabled.

Sorry, it's not currently supported in the Qobuz plugin. We hope the original author of that plugin adds support for that features - as much of the rest of the team doesn't have access to that service in their respective territories.

Yeah, that works. One of the guys is looking into an issue with Soundcloud on Yosemite (OSX) that seems likely to be caused by SSL handling. Is that the OS you are on?

It used to update them, but changes to Spotify has broken it. We are working on reimplementing it - not just for Spotify - but for multiple services that support playlist syncing.

I think it's a factor of two things for me:

1) My listening habits generally tend towards listening to new artists over listening to ones I already know/love.

2) I have less time (and less attention) than I used to, and music has become much more of a background activity for me (and most I think).

The second point is the bigger one - and, I think, more applicable to larger population. When we were growing up (yes, I'm now making you as old as me), when we listened to music it had a much less competition for our attention. We'd read the liner notes, or flip through magazines about our favorite artists, or just listen. Now we have the ADD playground known as the internet and smartphones, and, depending on your age... jobs. I don't have the bandwidth to go deep with a specific artist, I've got Twitter to read, Candy Crush to play, emails to write and animated gifs of monkeys to look at.

But for me that's the beauty, and irreplaceable value, of music... it doesn't have to be the center of your attention to be an indispensable part of your life.

Responding to Jana's quote above... I can say that I have a deeper relationship with music as a whole, but a shallower relationship with any individual artist.
