I'd say that the fitness goal is a habit goal more than an accomplishment goal. Even if the accomplishment is running a 10K or losing 15 pounds, the achievement isn't in the actual 10K, but rather in the daily activity that helps that be accomplished. For example, You can't lose 50 pounds in a quarter, but you can lose 1 pound a week. The achievement happens in Q4, but the activity (or habit) happens in all four quarters.

Re: Why I’ve Brought Comments Back

Sounds like a good idea for a blog post, Michael!

Re:

I totally agree that viewing most things through a lens of empowerment is the better way to go.

My question to the larger Education system is: How do we get rid of this bullying behavior? It is so harmful. "Solidified my position as a preferred employee" still sounds like how someone who is bullied talks, right? It is not about you being a preferred employee, it is about you being *your* best self. If any teacher feels like she can't be her best self because she will be perceived as the principal's pet, we have a real problem, don't we?

Anyway, I appreciate your willingness to put yourself out there and post your thoughts initially. Talking about it, and making people aware that it happens is an important step in this complex process. Thank you.

Re: ✔ WWDC'14 - iOS8, Mac OSX Yosemite and our Nozbe 2.0 development = my crazy ideas :-)

Hi. As a school principal, I have learned so much from these podcasts, even though we don't make any money. Good leadership is good leadership, and I certainly changed my leadership since listening to the podcast. This episode was so powerful because it taught about the propensity for trust. And that is important because you need to tell people you are leaning toward trusting them!

Re: Startup Weekend Provo

Thanks, Darren. Do you think a better protest would be to not give him any attention? Perhaps even not read him and certainly not give further credence to his post by not giving him credit for stimulating your thinking?

As to extrinsic and intrinsic motivations, I often struggle with how PBIS has been construed to mean that we give out lots of rewards. That isn't really what it is about. It is about defining our expectations, teaching, re teaching, and correcting misbehavior. We choose to make it about rewards. One good thing about class dojo is that it basically can keep track of how many times you positively and negatively reteach students.

I had a great conversation about this with @chriswejr in an upcoming @trnfrmprincipal episode.

Re: Journalist Photos of Sochi Olympics Conditions (32 Photos) : theCHIVE

Par for the course. In that sense, I would say that we are very vulnerable in learning in that we need knowledge to knowledge to survive. Those who refuse to learn are lacking vital sustenance. They are missing out on nourishment their bodies truly need. And thus, as you said, are therefore ignorant.

Re: Introducing the NEW Drape’s Takes

So, are you not migrating all the old stuff over to this new one?

Re: High-Performance Instructional Leadership, Video 2: Compression

I've been using TextExpander for a little over a year, and it has saved me so much time. It seems to me that your assumption of the word "open" is that it means the same to everyone else as it does to you. When you quoted the "About Us" page on TPT, you emphasized the word OPEN, as if to communicate that it related to your desire for the #OER movement to be successful and take the place of traditional publishing.

Please correct me if I am wrong, because the rest of this argument is based on that assumption.

When TPT is talking about "open", they are not talking about free products. They are talking about putting any seller on the same footing as any other seller when they first start selling. (Reputations will be created and some will be favored more than others, but everyone is on the same playing field.) This is revolutionary, and is (i believe) a precursor to the OER movement gaining more traction. What TPT does is allows a teacher to use her money to support content she feels is directly applicable and effective for her classroom. It allows the Pearson book to gain a little more dust on the bookshelf.

The more teachers say they don't want to use Pearson the less likely it may be that a district purchases Pearson books. If a district can use the common core and TPT to purchase a curriculum, they can likely save a lot of taxpayer money (always a good thing). Once they realize how much money they can save while still maintaining good results, they may be more likely to go the #OER route and save even more money! But, to think that they would go #OER right away sounds ludicrous. Many people still think that a paper encyclopedia is a better encyclopedia than wikipedia.

If you are for OER, you almost have to be against the big three publishers. TPT is also against the big three publishers. #OER and TPT should be besties, because they are both fighting for the right for teachers to decide what to teach, not a publisher that posts $4.4 BILLION in Profit!
