Personally I find you to be a little rude. I spoke for our class because I took on a role that required it. It isn't that "No one else wanted to do it," people don't just get chosen from a hat for that.

Calling me BS is just a little immature in my eyes. If you have an issue with my comments, it looks a little more credible to write professionally instead of like someone typing an instant message to her friend.

I don't want to start any big argument with you. You have said your peace and I have said mine. I don't know you, so I am not going to insult you. Please find the same respect for me.

Re: Underage party host facing grownup charges

Justin is in college now. He is starting classes, meeting new friends and becoming independent just as any other kid would. It is Justin's nineteenth birthday today. I think this year will be different for him, so just do everyone a favor and drop this issue that occured a month ago.

Justin will appear in court in about a month, and you will all forget about this over the next year. If you see Justin's name in the paper for another indescretion over the next year, go ahead and say 'I told you so.'

But for now, let a kid who is starting over---at a new school, in a new year, on his birthday--- live his life.

Re: Underage party host facing grownup charges

Wow, this could be a great reading comprehension section on the SATs.

The findings in the reading:
-Justin broke a law.
-Justin will face a trial, as the court system requires.
-Justin will face the sentence given.
-Holding "signs" outside the court will not make a difference to the outcome of the trial.
-The judge/jury will not walk outside and ask the "sign carriers" what they think the outcome should be, nor will said signs sway the final decision.

Now, form a thesis.

-In Justin Campo's upcoming trial, the comments on the Derry News blog, picket signs and Ron Campo's title will not affect the sentence Justin will receive.

Re: Underage party host facing grownup charges

Oh. and one more thing... Jon is it?

So what if most of the people posting for Justin are friends with him?

It just goes to show that his virtues out rule his vices... or that not everyone is blessed with a few good friends.

Re: Underage party host facing grownup charges

I hope all of you don't think the "Justin Campo Defenders" are not tryign to say that what he did was right. We're not stupid, even though the stereotype is that 18 year old high school graduates don't know anything...

We know he broke the law, we are just trying to stop this crap spreading around that the Campo family is the villian in the town of Londonderry NH, and that people like Jon are the acting Spiderman or Batman trying to take the evil Campo's down.

Yes, Justin did a bad thing.
Yes, he is sorry.
Yes, this story is more publicized because of his father's title.
Yes, there were two girls arrested for the same crime Justin committed this summer. Their names (or mugshots for that matter) didn't make it past the police log.

And yes, I know some of the kids standing up for Justin may seem like they don't think what he did was wrong, but they just want to show him that for every person who wants to tie him to the stake, there is another who will help him down from it.

Lastly, if this is about some stupid grudge you have against any member of the Campo family, even their dog, just have some dignity and get over it. If it's really making you that mad, get rid of your anger some other way. Go for a run, or take up kick boxing

Re: One arrest at underage drinking party

Anon '08- I respect your honesty and the fact that you can agree with both sides of the story. And I agree with you about the fact that underaged drinking is wrong, but it is inevitable. It will continue in every school of every town in every state of this country. But our class was not the only one to get a reputation for drinking. When our class started drinking at dances, I saw upperclassmen drunk just as much as underclassmen, if not more. The only difference is that the upperclassmen seemed to know how to hide it. The fact of the matter is, high school students and alcohol have gone hand-in-hand for years. Ask your parents, I'm sure students drank under the bleachers and at the prom back in the 70's.

Cecile-You say that you know Justin, so why don't you just reveal yourself instead of hiding behind an internet username? It's so easy for people to complain and ridicule as long as no one is aware of his or her true idenity. I also am wondering how you know about all of the apparent "parties' Justin held. If it's word of mouth, then you can just withdraw that comment. I hope that in your four years of high school you learned that's called gossip. If Justin invited you to said party or you have records of said parties then you can make your case.

Oh, and one more thing. Stop saying Justin is getting special treatment because his Dad is on the school board. When Justin made the baseball team in middle school, kids said "He just made it because of his dad." We were barely 13 and people were trying to find ways to use his dad's title against him. He didn't make Varsity baseball in high school the second he stepped onto the field of Lancer park. His first varsity appearance didn't come until Junior year. He worked for that, his dad didn't slap a sign on Justin's chest that said "I'm a school board child, you better take me."

If Justin was getting special treatment, he wouldn't have been taken to jail. He wouldn't be facing a trial this month. His mugshot wouldn't be plastered on the internet. But wait, he's getting extra attention from the media and townspeople of NH? What a lucky dog. I wish I could get ridiculed more than the average joe. I wish I could get grief from my successes and failures based on my father's occupation.

Justin's facing the same charges as any kid in his situation would. He just gets to have it magnified by the people of Londonderry and beyond. He gets to read the muck from the same people who honked their horns and waved at his cross country team when they passed through Mack's Apples, or the students who joined in on the cheers he orchestrated at pep rallies and sporting events.

There are two girls from Londonderry who are facing the same charges as Justin this summer. They both threw parties at their houses, and they are 18. Have you seen their mugshots online? Do you know their names? Hm, it's a shame they don't get the same publicity as Justin.

Guess they aren't lucky enough to have a family member on the school board.

Re: Underage party host facing grownup charges

You know there are two definitions to the word class. One is a noun and the other is an adjective. I think a few of you are having a problem with the adjective form of the word.

Have some class. Stop doing the easy thing, which is to ridicule someone for their wrong doings. I've spoken to Justin, and we both agree what he did was wrong. But keep in mind that Justin has a computer. His family has the internet. He can sign on to the Derry News website and see all of you trying to defame his character. And we see this everywhere, everyday. Reporters trying to tear down the credibility of Presidential Candidates by publishing stories about love children and affairs. And yes, most of these candidates have to come out and admit that some of these occurences are true. They'll say they aren't proud of what they did, but they prove that everyone makes mistakes, everyone is human.

The class of 2008 is filled with so many good people, good students and many of them are looking at exceptional futures. But seriously, our class isn't full of saints. I've seen kids swear at teachers, throw other students to the ground in a fight, and even try to deal drugs at the rec courts. Justin has never done any of these things. He is not a repeat offender. And for the people claiming he throws parties like a three year old throws temper tantrums, I'd like to see where you got your information. Do you keep a ledger with the times and dates and amount of alcohol that entered the Campo residence? Have you ever spoken to Justin Campo?

Or are you just trying to prove a point that there are way too many stereotypes in high school and life after high school as well? His friends are a "drinking group." That's all you have. I could point to a group of kids dressed in black and say, "They're druggies." I could point to a kid with glasses and say "He's a geek." But really, let's just go out on a witch hunt. Let's point fingers and read "The Crucible" and light some torches. This is 2008, and we're not in Salem, MA.

So back to our topic of class. Cecile, I don't think you are using your real name, because I'm pretty sure there is not a Cecile in the LHS class of 2008. I'm your Vice President, I spoke at your Baccalaueate and I received scholarships as well. Would you like to "strip" me of my scholarships because I am standing up for an 18 year old who is only human? Take them. Go to my college and pry them out of my tuition account.

You may be part of the class of 2008, but I sure don't see you showing that you have any class.

And our Class t-shirt said "We're Kind of a Big Deal" not "08 is Great."

Re: One arrest at underage drinking party

Tina-
I would like to start out by telling you that I was at Baccalaureate. I was actually the student who made the speech on behalf of my class. I know what it is like to have to hold up a reputation, but I asked for it. I enrolled myself in activities that involved representation of my school. But Justin didn't ask his father to run for school board. Justin did not have a previous record. Justin is a stand-up young man, and nothing you say will change my view on that.

The thing that really gets me is that you are so quick to judge. All you have is a mugshot and the straight facts. I have Justin's personality, and I know he didn't decide to do this because he "got cocky". I'm not trying to say it is right to drink illegally, but I do think it that it isn't right to insult a young man whom you do not even know. If you have children, put yourself in the shoes of the Campo family. What if your child got into this same predicatment? Would you want to sign on to a public forum and read the slander that is being thrown around? And if you have children, do you know if they have consumed alcohol before? Have you asked? I know many parents who don't ask, they just don't want to know.

I think it's horrible for people to be elated that this occurred. It is not right to be teaching the next generation that you can laugh at another person's expense... at least MY parents taught me that.

But my parents also taught me that when you do something wrong, you have to face the consequences. Justin Campo is doing just that. He is facing his court date, his night in jail, and his not so great start to college in the fall. Do you really find it necessary to speak as if he committed a felony? To look in a thesaurus and insert every negative word that seems to fit?

To use the favorite word of my elders, I think it is DISGUSTING that you are using your lunch break to insult an 18 year old kid. Use your time to speak with your own children and ask if they have ever tried alcohol. You might be surprised at what you find.

Re: Underage party host facing grownup charges

It's funny to hear that some of you think the only people sticking up for Justin were at the party. I wasn't.

But I was there when Justin started most of our team chants at basketball and football games.

I was there when Justin's cross country Coach gave an account of his teamwork and leadership on his team, even though Justin was side-lined for most of the season with an injury.

And yeah, I was there when Mr. Elefante began describing the young man who was about to receive the Principal's Award and I was going crazy trying to figure out who it would be. And when Mr. Elefante announced Justin Campo's name, I had tears in my eyes because I was so proud to see him receive it.

I'm one of Justin's classmates. I've been friends with him since the seventh grade. I wasn't at his house the other night. But I can't even imagine how he feels to see all of these strangers try to rip him apart.

If you are trying to make a point about underaged drinking, talk to your own children, your children's friends, your nieces and nephews. Let the Campo family deal with their son and start dealing with your own. We all learn by example, so take this lesson and make some good out of it.

And as for this "Current LHS Student"? I was in student government, sports teams, and other activites. I've heard about kids drinking since they were 13 in every group in the school. Get involved if you are so passionate about underaged drinking. Join the Newspaper and write an editorial, or join S.A.D.D. and organize an awareness event. There is a lot more you can do than cower behind your computer and fiercely type out your feelings.

Re: One arrest at underage drinking party

I'd like to say thanks to the people who stuck up for Justin. As his classmate and friend, I can attest to his character and the fact that he would never want to intentionally do any harm. He made a mistake and I am completely positive that he is sorry for it. I just can't stand by and watch people try to judge him and kick him when he is down.

Justin screwed up, we all do. But don't say he isn't deserving of the Principal's Award because teachers, administrators and students alike would all agree that he demonstrated the character and spirit that goes hand-in-hand with an honor such as that.

Of course, underage drinking is a problem, but it really is something that is better educated through schools or the home. Arresting those nine other kids wouldn't have made much of a difference because I'm sure the rest of their summers at home won't be too pleasant.

So don't be so quick to judge, because I'm sure everyone has some not so proud memories from when they were our age.
