Your genuine curiosity really shines through, and I think that makes all the difference in the positive return you're experiencing.

Along with "don't sell," I think it's really important to approach social media with a spirit of generosity. Every time I send an email newsletter or write a blog post, I try to share something valuable with the people who are reading. So many people turn to social media because they want to *get* something, instead of *give* something. Those who are most successful, in my eyes, are the ones who aren't obsessing over ROI, but seeking to help others.

Re: Giveaway: Win Doctor Who Stationary & Daleks Need Love Sticker from Darling Stewie

Daleks need love too! (I know they're supposed to be scary, but I think Daleks are sort of cute and funny.)

Favorite companion is a tie between Amy and Donna. Both are great at putting the Doctor in his place. Maybe it's a redhead thing? :-)

Re: The problem with Elementary

I've been wondering about this show -- I love BBC's Sherlock and am interested to see how this one does. (I'll have to wait until it's on Netflix to watch the first season.)

One thing I haven't heard anyone mention ... Psych, to me, is basically the modern American version of Sherlock. Totally different, but I like that, and I think the writing is clever.

Re: Geeky at Home: Sick day

Oh man, I *LOVE* the IT Crowd. You know how I knew? For the first time, I could just be myself and not worry if he thought I was acting psycho. So yes, please be yourself. In the right relationships (romantic or platonic), no one wastes time thinking about that stuff.

P.S. -- I hope your next NYC trip coincides with mine! xoxo

Re: Giveaway: Win the innovative book and app, “Chopsticks”

I'm always looking for book recommendations -- This one looks interesting! I recently finished Patti Smith's "Just Kids," which was wonderful. Now I'm reading "Soulless" by Gail Carriger, which is shaping up to be fun and entertaining.

Re: http://jesshibb.com/post/17895406317

I'm really picky, too, and prefer things that are as simple as possible. I basically just wanted a table with a keyboard tray, and totally lucked out. Some of the instant films I use are very temperature-sensitive, so I stick the developing photos down my shirt to keep them warm. It's turned into kind of a joke around here. :-)

Re: http://wellappointeddesk.tumblr.com/post/11573694988

I'm not into ballpoint, either, so please don't pick me! Just wanted to say that the "Need Coffee" with the skull & crossbones is BRILLIANT. I'm currently obsessed with my Spectra camera, too. :-) How did you manage such lovely tones with the silvershade film in this hot weather? Mine always lean toward sepia when I shoot in the summer.

Re: http://jesshibb.tumblr.com/post/7368528581

Thanks, everyone! Not to mention how amazing it is to be part of the process ... I think future generations of photographers will look back at us and think we're so lucky for being able to shoot instant films as they were in the process of being reborn.

Re: If I were a superhero

Um, yeah. My high school's graduating class had less than 90 kids. Despite that, our drama teacher still took us to a Broadway show every spring, so I visited NYC more times before I went to college than many other kids. My parents believe travel and education and the arts are really important, so I didn't suffer from a complete lack of sophistication. Life is about choices, no matter what your perceived opportunities are. I think your kids will do just fine.

Another interesting note, career-wise: Growing up on a farm is always part of the answer to the ubiquitous "tell me about yourself" question in job interviews. Most employers who know anything about life on a farm are more than thrilled to hear this ... To them, it means that I won't shy away from hard work. Putting in overtime to finish a project is no hardship after you've shoveled cow poop. :-)

Re: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 Review-Video

Congrats on the new camera! I've had the LX3 since February and I really like it. I considered a starter DSLR, but most don't have video capabilities. And I already have several SLR film cameras that satisfy my desire for more artistic control. For me, the LX3 was a perfect fit as far as quality, features, size/convenience, and price. (When I bought my LX3 it was only $400 ... demand has driven the price up since then!)

Oh, another point in favor of a high quality point-and-shoot (vs. DSLR) -- If you photograph people, they act much more natural when you take photos with a smaller camera. Many people act shy or strange around big cameras, so I find I can take better candid photos with the LX3.
