It looks like you had a strong run. I ran the Marathon - my first marathon of any kind. In training I had run all of the course but in chunks. When they were all put together it was a lot more climbing than I thought. The volunteers and aid stations were great and the celebrity sightings were cool. I ran behind Timothy Olson for a bit as we made our way over the Angry Chihuahua at the start and got to cheer on Magdalena Boulet.

Re: Why You Should Stop Lifehacking and Invest in the Journey

Being conscious of the journey and grateful for the lessons learned along the way is the marrow of life. I have been on a fitness journey for the past year, ever since learning that I had burgered and cookied my way to diabetes. Since that time I have exercised regularly, greatly changed my diet and started running, inspired by you and your book Finding Ultra. When friends first saw my transformation they asked how I did it. Perhaps expecting some kind of techy body hack, friends would ask how I was able to make the changes (which included losing 30 pounds and getting rid of diabetes within 3 months). They seemed surprised when my response was "diet and exercise". I definitely think there is a place for hacks but the hack is not the end, it is a means to accomplish a task or challenge in a quicker and more efficient way. The hack means not re-inventing the wheel and listening to the best coaches and sifting through the best advice. I do a lot of blogging about tech hacks. In your book you mention learning about Zone training and using it to build ultra endurance and avoid bonking. I took that tip/hack and used it to help me run my first half marathon and train for a grueling 30K trail race. Of course the hack is no replacement for the dozens of training runs and actually navigating the courses over and over again to get my body up to shape. The hack also doesn't replace the awe of running along mountain tops and taking satisfaction in being in concert with nature and seeing how far one has gone. I too feel anxiety over the Buzzfeed, quick-hit, hack-to-win nature of our social media feeds but like all other content, it's up to us to select and filter information that we think will help us mindfully continue our fitness and spiritual journeys.

Re: 7 Places To Watch Videos On Vine, Even If You Don't Have The App

Nice to see people are stepping up and creating different interfaces for Vine.

Re: In Response to Navarrette’s CNN Piece About Leo Manzano, We Present Other Unpatriotic Athletes

Yet no one complains about having a corporate swoosh across the jersey as well. Of course there will be additional backlash from bigots in power, there always is. That's why this is called the human right struggle. The struggle is to move forward with a plan that might not be perfect or all inclusive but moves in the right direction. The struggle is to move forward to enfranchise young people who have been working to fulfill the best ideals of being American. President Obama has given Dreamers a chance to come out of the shadows and I support them.

Re: Opinion: When it comes to the elections, money really matters for Latinos

#latism - The power is in the fist pumping, cardboard carrying person. They need more volunteers to go out into the community and remind people that their vote is their voice.

It will be interesting to see if Latinos show up to the polls in this primary season. I hope so and have been canvassing and calling to remind them to vote.

Also, being discontent with current day politics could be a reason not to register but it could also have to do with an economy that is inching its way back from a Depression. When times are tough people become mobile and have to re-register after moving.

Re: Latina bloggers amplify their voices at the White House

Amazing group, empowerment personified! #latism #latismatthewh

Re: http://nbclatino.tumblr.com/post/22709370180

I learned to type on actual typewriters and didn't really use computers for word processing until after graduating from high school.

As you suggest, Kristian, it's important to look forward as much as we can and see which skills can bridge students to the next set of skills that haven't even been invented yet.

Part of this educational approach includes connecting students with newer technologies today and allowing them to become familiar with them. At first, the best way for them to learn is to play with the technology. Then they can take the next steps and become users and creators.

Glad to see an article that is helping to connect the dots on recent research and on ways to apply that research to help the community.
-@jesseluna

Re: Adelante Mujer Latina inspires a generation of future leaders through mentorship

This is a great conference. Both have job creation and community development in the forefront. Small businesses are reliant on working with other local small businesses and government groups. Labor is interested in maintaining good jobs that help communities flourish. There is a lot of overlap there.

Two-tier wage and pension systems are *not* part of the solution. Workers are fighting tooth and nail to keep these two-tier systems from chopping apart wages and pensions, not just for them but for new labor entrants.

Re: Why I Obtained Minority Owned Business (MBE) Certification

Hi Michele,
Great information on the video, the certification process can be very daunting so it's good to see what's really involved.

Small business owners can also get help at all Small Business Development Centers (SBDC). The SBDC is an Small Business Administration (SBA) program and there are regional centers across the US. These centers provide free and low-cost training/presentations and free business consulting for small businesses and startups.

To get started, call your nearest SBDC regional office, make an appointment and you'll be connected with one or more consultants. The LA Regional SBDCs are accessible from http://smallbizla.org/. In the LA area, offices are located from Long Beach to Santa Monica to the Valley to Ventura/Santa Barbara Counties.

I've been doing consulting for the SBDC's Ventura office since November of 2010. (But recently started another full-time job so haven't been as active lately.)

-Jesse Luna

Re: 28 Brilliant Bloggers Talk About Creating Video Content

Thanks for the kind mention, Allison! This is a relationship building strategy. In that, you seek to connect with one person and find out their needs and interests. Now, if President Obama doesn't follow up on that visit and actually do something constructive based on what he learned then I agree that it will be seen as a quickie campaign stopover.

So maybe it's not so much a Landlord stopping by to see his tenants as much as an estranged relative stopping by for that first somewhat awkward visit to try to restart a relationship. The difference is perception and whether or not one wants to take a risk and hope for a better relationship for all.

Re: Rep.
