However, I found that they have a very similar vision for Bitbucket, and for that reason, I decided to partner up. I'm staying with the company for the years to come, and I won't let it deteriorate into something I'm not proud of.

Re: Bitbucket downtime for a hardware upgrade

Over night we ran into a hiccup with SSH authentications. For this we apologize.
When anyone uploaded a new SSH key after the roll out of our new setup, the new key would overwrite the existing SSH key store. If you attempted to authenticate to your repositories using SSH during this time, your authentication would have failed. A stray process in charge of handling the store kept us in check and it took us a while to track it down.

A couple of hours ago we rolled out a fix for the problem and all of your SSH authentications should be working as expected.

Re: Bitbucket downtime for a hardware upgrade

You can now. During the 1 hour downtime, we will perform the final synchronization and promote the staging environment to be the live environment. If anything goes wrong with the synchronization, we will roll back to our existing environment

@axolx: We'll be posting a follow-up post-migration about the migration, what we did to prepare, and more details on what our problems with Amazon were.

Re: Another EC2+EBS incident: What happened

We do have sharding on the application level (we can redirect any repository/user to any appserver), so we can scale this out. But I'd like to squeeze as much juice out of these boxes as I can before I go provision more.

Re: Another EC2+EBS incident: What happened

Oh, sorry, I thought I was replying to @shickb, not you :)

Re: Another EC2+EBS incident: What happened

Thanks for the detailed answer :)

The issue is that we're maxing out our pipe (GBit interface) as it is now, and if we add DRBD/hot spare/mirroring, we're cutting our write throughput in half.

In our case, it was a single EBS device that was unreachable, not the whole array.

Re: Another EC2+EBS incident: What happened

Absolutely. We have very recent snapshots of all data, at all time. If disaster strikes, we can recover pretty well. But yeah, it doesn't sit well with me either.
