I go for walks at night in Malmö all the time. Racist websites think Malmö is a warzone. It's very safe. The only time it was unsafe was a few years ago when the anti-immigrant terrorist was shooting people in the back of the head if they didn't look Swedish enough, before he was caught.

Literally tens of millions of Europeans voted for anti-Muslim fascist parties in the recent EU elections -- lots more than ISIS sympathizers on another continent.

The anti-Muslim murderers are not "one-off nutters" -- they are part of an organized political, social, and violent right-wing anti-Muslim crusade in Europe. There are hundreds of Islamophobic terrorist attacks and hate crimes throughout Europe and in Sweden.

You can't compare what's happening in a warzone across the world. It's a WAR. You wouldn't call all Irish people a "pre-meditated evil" when they were having a war. The only difference is that Irish people are white.

- Anders Breivik killed 69 people, and called himself a soldier in a war against immigrants.
- Peter Mangs shot 18 people in Malmö, specifically targeting brown people and mosques, in a war against immigrants.
- John Ausonius shot 11 people in Stockholm and Uppsala, in a war against immigrants and foreigners.

Should I continue? There has been exactly 1 terrorist attack by a brown person in Sweden, and he only killed himself in an explosion.

Far right anti-immigrant racists are the ONLY real, actual terrorist threat in Sweden. They're also a real political threat.

It's so ridiculously scary the parallels between right now in Europe and the time before WW2. Instead of blaming a non-existent Jewish threat, now the fascists are blaming a non-existent Muslim threat.

Most foreign citizens can vote in Swedish local/regional elections. Anyway, I meant "immigrants" - cleary, using the wrong word makes me no different than demonizing and taking away rights from different racial/ethnic groups, right?

The point of this site isn't extremism, it's about English-language news for Sweden. The comments are for adding feedback and context, and the extremist comments seriously detract from this site.

This is not hacking into private conversations. This is exposing identities of people who are speaking in public. It's the difference between putting listening devices in people's homes vs. videotaping someone putting up political signs in public.

That is just not how business works. For example, Citigroup lost about $8 billion and performed the 2nd worst of the S&P 500 in one year 2012. The CEO resigned from the company with a $260 million compensation package. Individual performance and company performance is just not tied to salary, nor should it be. People are no commodities.

There was just a news story today (not on The Local) that showed a disproportionate number of foreigners vote SD. Lots of self-hating and white supremacists come to Nordic countries, unfortunately, thinking wrongly that it is some bastion of whiteness.

Regardless, it's still a small number of Swedes who vote SD - roughly 10% polling right now. Those 10% are the furthest right voters, and their positions are much further to the right of any other political party, even the Moderates or Center parties.

Earlier you mentioned cultural differences, now you mention money.

First, allowing refuge for immigrants is a large part of the cultural legacy of Sweden. This is not America or the UK. Foreigners dictating that Sweden discontinue their cultural tradition - THAT is the outside force trying to change Sweden's culture. Poor immigrants and refugees are not the ones trying to do this.

Second, if you're talking about money, Sweden is not a neoliberal economy. Taxes in Sweden are not intended to provide you "value" based on what you contribute. Taxes in Sweden are meant to provide welfare and equality. This is the cultural legacy of Sweden. If you want a country where these are not the core values, I recommend the USA, Canada, Iran, etc.

If you're talking about the "right kind of immigrants" - what do you think about a test of values to ensure the right kind of immigrants get in? Only immigrants who agree with Swedish values of equality, social justice, caring about one's neighbors can receive a visa. Others, such as anti-immigrant immigrants or those who want "value" from tax money are rejected and sent home.

This is great, can you do something similar on The Local? There is something extremely fishy going on in the comments here - someone posts an anti-immigrant xenophobic/racist screed and suddenly they get 25 anonymous upvotes. It's clearly an organized attack by the far right.

That's the definition of left and right, how they relate to the mainstream. The mainstream in Sweden is the Moderate Party & Social Democrats. Sweden Democrats are extremely to the right of both of them.

This has been studied ad nauseum. Children of LGBT parents do just as well on all measures as heterosexual parents. Look up LGBT parenting on wikipedia for dozens of scientific sources. Actually, children of lesbian parents do slightly BETTER on measures of school performance and happiness than heterosexual parents. If you want to discriminate based on how well children on average do, then we should ban heterosexual parenting and only allow lesbians to raise children.

There is no such taboo. Look here or on any Swedish-language news sites and there's a story about immigration every day. It is taboo to complain about Muslims or Jews or brown people, as it should be. It is taboo to call immigrants, especially when that is code for "Muslims and Jews" corrosive. How would you like it, as someone removed from Swedish society, if Swedes living in Sweden called you corrosive?

There is a serious discussion about real issues around integration and how much immigration Sweden should allow. It happens amongst Swedes every day in public and private.

Exactly what are immigrants asking you to change? Sweden has a long cultural heritage of being a refuge and welcoming immigrants. Posting on an English-language site complaining about Swedes to stop immigration -- you ARE the outside force asking Sweden to change to your culture.

I'm not that experienced in Swedish names yet, but it looks like there is only 1 woman and 19 men on that list? That's shocking and appalling, Sweden has a long way to go with gender equality.

There is nearly zero correlation between executive pay and how well companies are doing. Look it up on scholarly sites (not neoliberal opinion sites). During the global economic catastrophe, investment firm and banking executives made record salaries and bonuses while the companies lost billions. Highly-paid executives get paid what they can get away with, which has very little to do with how well a company is doing financially or socially.
