You should be congratulated for running the Berrios campaign into the ground. Negative people like you detract from making any kind of progress for anything. Pat yourself on the back for participating in a catastrophic defeat.

How many Kent Women do you represent? Judging by the voter turnout, my guess is two.

I like that those of us in the Kent School District were taxed an additional $22 million that didn't benefit anyone. The school district better substantially reduce the taxes for future years.

Someone should finally draft those recall petitions circulated. I have been waiting for mine.

I agree! This definitely could have been headed off much earlier to stop this from becoming an actual article. First, at the city and then at the Reporter. I know the issue seemed serious in the context of those "hits" but let's complete the research before writing the article. Oh well.

The report was crap. Calculating site visits was the only accurate way to display that information and it was 165 visits in a 5 month period. Your information is misleading and terrible.

Boyce seems to have an idea for some solutions. Clark seems to want to make teachers feel good, but didn't say how.

It was nice for Smith to show up to at lease create some kind of discussion even though he is no longer running for the position.

Berrios sure likes to stretch out numbers...

In an attempt to scare up votes he claims that the city will cut at least 40 jobs. Turns out it was 24 -just 3.4% of the city's employees.

Now he freaks out over a report that he knew was false and is trying to mislead voters with an accusation the the mayor's staff has visited the PDC Website over 12,000 times. It was actually 165 times.

Watch out next time you eat at the Golden Steer. Your $1.65 coffee may cost you $120!!

That is one scary way to interpret numbers...

I was wondering why all of these Berrios supporters continuously used quotation marks around the word 'hits' and now I don't need to wonder anymore. They knew that it was a faulty report all along. Good grief!

We should post on here the salaries of employees at the Golden Steer. I bet those people aren't getting livable wages and benefits. That is evident by the lackluster reviews his restaurant has on yelp.com - http://www.yelp.com/biz/gol...

2.5/5 stars is not the ranking I want for Kent. Because I care about Kent.

Should we start looking into the health code violations of the restaurant? Any 2.5 star restaurant with cold food as described on Yelp will have some violations, right? Gross! One of the reviews even asks for the old owners to come back. This is funny stuff.

Nothing about the story has anything to do with the employees "ASSISTING" the campaign. Therefore, no violation occurred.

The article I found is titled - "Denny's Promises To Address Bias -- After Three Years, A Public Apology From Restaurant Chain" It was in the Seattle Times. This implies a not-so-immediate response to the issues of racial discrimination. The article also names Mr. Berrios as a local branch manager. Not to take away from his many years of service to Denny's that eventually landed him the Operation Manager position...

Also, to consider all of the allegations with the budget that were brought up early in the campaign which you are eluding to at the end of your statement there. The budget cuts have been made and Police and Fire are completely safe. City services were reduced in a manner far less that Mr. Berrios attempted to state earlier at the debates. Looks like that argument (his entire campaign) has flown out the window. Now we will see if he clings to matters of Suzette's personal life which would be truly SAD.

Well, if you would like to debate about resume and loose affiliations with poor business ventures you are picking the much worse of two candidates.

Mayor Cooke's resume vs. her opposition is not much of a contest. Mayor Cooke has a long list of service to her community and there is no reason to characterize ESP Printing as a black eye when it has had many years of providing jobs in this community. A bankruptcy in these economic times is not new or unexpected.

However, when we discuss businesses affiliated with these two candidates and we search for Berrios and Denny's online one may come across some interesting topics. That being lawsuits brought against Denny's for racial discrimination of African-Americans. I think a lot of us can remember those complaints when they were happening. Can you guess who was a local manager at that time? Here's a hint - it rhymes with Jim Berrios.

Let's continue looking at resumes. Suzette Cooke has worked as an economic development manager for the City of Burien, was an executive for both the Renton and Kent Chambers of Commerce at different times, and even the director of the Senior Center here in Kent.

What was Jim doing? Working at Denny's and then owning a Denny's-like restaurant. That's not the kind of progress that we need in Kent unless we are looking to teach the different ways to cook an egg. Do we really need to get into the finances of his business?

And not to continue an already long response, but you have constantly stated that one must set emotions aside in order to be in a position of responsibility such as the mayor. Suzette has done that quite elegantly.

Wow! Well if you aren't a disgustingly insensitive person I don't know who is. To attack the mayor on an issue like the financial troubles of her dead husband's business is cowardly and disturbing.

Suzette explained the ownership of the business very clearly in the article. Upon the death of her husband she was no longer considered an owner. Can you imagine having to endure such a tragedy? Having a death in the family is bad enough, but to have a husband that left behind no will and a bankrupt business is unimaginable.

Anyone who reads this article past the title can clearly see that Suzette had nothing to do with the bankruptcy of this business. She is a victim of the suicide of a loved one. She is so strong to be able to continue on the way that she has when her city has needed her.

You, being in clear support of her opposition, make me think twice about the kind of people that would consider supporting him. You are sick.

Just working with the information that I could readily find, Greg Nickels (Mayor of Seattle) increased his pay by $8300 from 2005-2007. We can probably assume that those pay increases continued until his voluntary reduction. So, since Mayor Cooke was not increasing her pay at all I would say the difference was already made. No need to reduce your salary to make a point. Looks like she has made her point over the last four years by not increasing her salary.

I also saw an article that stated that the mayoral salaries in South King County range from $102192 to $154956. Well, since $102,192 is Mayor Cooke's salary, that would make her the lowest paid mayor in South King County. Kent already has a good deal!

I really need to have something better to do on a Friday night. I'm lame.

That's funny that you ask. Her response to that was on the mailer that I received yesterday...First, it says that she did not increase the budget in her office by $1 million so someone is lying. Second, she does use that state law to explain why she didn't take a pay cut, but points to having not taken a pay increase in the 4 years as mayor which most have done. Kind of balances itself out I guess. Not sure if those are legitimate reasons for you, but there they were on my dining room table.

I'll have to look up her salary in relation to other mayors in the area to see if she is up to completely out of this league.

Berrios does say that he will take an immediate 10% reduction of the mayor's salary if elected. I didn't think the job is open to the lowest bidder. The last time I offered to take a lesser salary was during a job interview in which I was totally underqualified...I think the same may be going on here.

Oh yeah, I still didn't get the job.

The employee job cuts that Berrios talked about didn't sound like he was stating an approximation. More like he knew that it would be 40 jobs and if he is wrong, then that is a pretty serious error and the kind that makes people nervous for no reason. How many jobs are in the city anyway? 800 or so right? Comes down to a 5% employment reduction...not too scary. Renton just cut 35 as a comparison.

I'm curious about the cost of grade seperations too. I wouldn't be surprised if Berrios had that one right for the overall costs. He did have the papers and we have verification above. It wouldn't shock me if the mayor got the facts wrong for one question since she handled everything else with no problems.

I think when you emphasize that "$3.2 million DOES equate to approximately 40 jobs", you should emphaisize APPROXIMATELY. Then emphasize that it is APPROXIMATELY 5%.

The problem with numbers is that there are always approximations and estimates. Sometimes they are right, but they are usually wrong given how many variables are in play.

haven't noticed any smoke and mirrors tactics. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if there are budget shortfalls there will be cuts. That has been explained over and over again and it is so simple. I think that rosy picture that the mayor paints is actually called "positivity" which seems to have died with the Berrios campaign. Berrios may not be a politician and sometimes that is a good thing, but in this case his learning curve is too high. We wouldn't have the time to wait for him to figure out what he is doing, let alone figure out who he is supposed to hire to get it done. Not only that, but he praises increased taxes and cuts at random times too

Did you really think the mayor was just standing up there and telling lies? That's a pretty bold statement. It's not like she was saying that we can all relax because the flood was prevented. She just said she has worked hard to prevent it and that seems obvious. She also didn’t seem to stand there to tell us what we want to hear. That was an actual list of accomplishments and positive changes since she has become mayor.

As for Showare Center, I think it is a great venue for sports and other events. It can't remember when it actually opened, but it is somewhere around the one year mark and has done pretty well. I am still an advocate for some real football in there, but only time will tell on that one.

As for knowing Jim, I can't say that I do. I know that he is a single issue candidate with a serious lack of experience. He probably should have run for council first.

There is no mess. There is a budget crunch like everywhere else and it has come as no surprise to anyone. Good luck with Berrios. The guy really doesn't know what is going on.

I don't know if you paid much attention to what is going on in Renton, but it seems like the same thing. They just cut jobs, but it is not any kind of crisis. People are acting like job cuts are the end of the world. Personally, that's what I expected to happen to balance the budget.

I had to cut through most of this because it is such a long video and am admittedly more interested in what the mayoral candidates had to say. Berrios has a serious lack of understanding of the issues and how to get things done. I have heard the complaints about Mayor Cooke, but it scares me to think that this guy could be mayor.

One notable point in the debate was when Mayor Cooke was explaining how she worked to secure $10 million in assistance to work on the levees by using her relationships with regional leaders and Jim rebuts by saying he would have asked for $20 million. Is he serious??? Sounds like Oliver Twist asking for some more...

Mayor Cooke is a far better candidate. Do us all a favor and keep her in this position.
