hahah i have a strange policy about museums: I only go if I've completely run out of things to do. I figure I can to go museums to my little heart's content when I'm older and less capable of walking whole cities in the rain. Plus it gives me a reason to go back everywhere!

Awesome! I did a day trip from Lisbon to Sintra when I was in Portugal over the summer - it's definitely NOT enough time to see everything, especially if you're walking from place to place! Good tip to stay overnight.

I've been so terrible at going to places actually NEAR the US! I think I should just island hop in the caribbean for a month. That would definitely do the trick!

Amazing! How many do you have left?? I'm dying to get to Croatia. I've not heard a single person who doesn't like it there! I may do Bali when I go to Singapore in September. Undecided! Bahamas does sound like a good option..... hmmmm....

thanks Henar! I wish we still had All You Can Jet from JetBlue here. AirAsia still has these sorts of deals, but sadly I'm not in Asia enough. Guess we'll just have to keep our eyes out!

Thanks Prem! I've been procrastinating on looking up the at-home workouts, but I've seen a lot come across my screen at various points. Time to make an effort to try them out!

Food-wise, I'm pretty good about eating "real" things, though I still have a soft spot for cereal in the morning! I don't have any processed things in my fridge or pantry, but the carbs get me every time, even if it's brown rice, quinoa and things like that!

Might have to pick your brain some more!

LOVE airfare watchdog. They're on my travel hacking twitter list - I find stuff through them all the time. Norwegian has great fares, but also a lot of extra fees. I like flying airlines that are alliance members. LOVE MY POINTS! That's an awesome fare to Norway tho! I think I got mine for $290 to Oslo from JFK last year. But it makes sense considering you're on the other side of the country! These days I'm keeping an eye out for Sweden or Finland since I haven't been to either yet!

Yay glad you're liking it! I have to say the trip from SF to LA is wayyyyyyyy too long on Rte 1. It didn't help that we were in a massive SUV and those roads were ridiculously wind-y, but all those curves add a *lot* of travel time. Maybe some day if I have a convertible and a leisurely pace. But considering we left late and had plans in LA, it wasn't the most relaxing ride! haha

Skyscanner is also an awesome one. I love the "Everywhere" feature. I booked my whole trip through Europe in 2009 by seeing what the cheapest flight from my current location was! Although I also took the train sometimes too :)

I'm on my second go-around of escaping the rat race in search of a better balance in life. The last time I did it I sold all my stuff and bought a ticket to Thailand. This time I'm taking a slower approach - building up something that will be more sustainable than just ditching everything and running to a cheaper, more exciting part of the world. When I ran out of money the last time, I took a nice comfy job, settled back down, and almost daily checked the travel blogs and flight deals wishing I could get back out there. I hope there's a happy medium somewhere!

HA! My currently funemployed status would say otherwise. Plus I'm like miles behind on the whole get-married-and-have kids front so maybe I've leaned in a bit too much. Congrats on the baby! Us computer gals need to also produce mini computer geeks too, ya know!

I personally like having a few more options for what I wear every day. Even now I travel with a pretty minimal wardrobe and get tired of wearing the same thing over and over. Not to mention I look the same in all of my photos! My 45L backpack does the trick for now. I *think* I could get down to maybe 30-35, but then I think I'd be sacrificing some enjoyment just for the sake of being minimal.

I think you could totally pull off a 15 things approach, though!

Yep, US insurance card. They have very little international worth, but they do have emergency coverage to a degree, so I like to carry it around. As for international travel insurance, I use World Nomads (http://www.worldnomads.com/..., but not for every trip. I liked having the peace of mind when I was around Southeast Asia, but for this current trip, I haven't bought a policy.

Wow this was an amazing story to read! I always worry about "settling down," getting married, having kids, and all that and how it would impact my independent traveler lifestyle, but your story shows that it's totally possible! Thanks for sharing and can't wait to read the whole book!
