I think we can all agree that the motive for future actions that this blog post represents is decidedly sad."

When it comes to your blog, there is little game I sometimes play in my head called "Precious or Sad?".

This particular entry is an excellent example of how the game works.
The picture itself is beyond precious.

The implications of you trying to commandeer your dog's disgusting slobbered on bone fragment is decidedly sad.

I am torn.

Just listening to this made me frustrated... I had to use the same happy place that I go to every time I try to help my mom with her Mac. Thank goodness she would at least consent to getting a mac so that I have a snowball's chance of helping her.

Sarah! You must read HP. My advice, watch the first two or three movies and then start with the third or fourth book. Or be a purist and read them all. As an english major and lover of good writing, you'll adore them. I would not steer you wrong, I swear it.

Algae is VERY realistic. It produces a ridiculous amount of oil and
is easy to grow. Mostly it's just figuring out the best way to "farm"
it as a crop, and how to do so in possibly existing facilities and
locations, rather than clearing land to build new ones. Ideally,
you'd farm algae right next to where you want to process it into
biodiesel so as to avoid any over the road shipping of the oil.

yes, there are a lot of things about Ethanol that are a "sham".
Essentially, it's not a bad product in theory, but everyone jumped on
the bandwagon of the first reasonable method that could be developed
(the use of corn, and a process that uses a LOT of water and energy),
and have barreled off at break neck pace without stopping to examine
what it might do to our food economy. The fact that they put such
lucrative Corn for Ethanol subsidies in place so quickly means that a
lot of farmers started growing gung ho for the money, and that is
hard to undo, and it has a lot of fall out and unexpected
ramifications on other related industries.
There are better ways to make Ethanol, but the way that they already
came up with already has exposure, people have heard about it, and it
already has government support on the books, so it is hard to get the
door open for a "new" way of doing it, when the way they've already
got is "working just fine". It's a dirty band-aid on a gaping wound,
and the doctors are so proud of themselves for scrounging up the
dirty band-aid that they aren't listening to the people banging on
the door bearing sustainable cotton gauze (to use a really odd mixed
metaphor).

The company I work for uses poultry fat as our raw product to make
biodiesel. It's not without it's issues, but it is preferable to soy
and definitely preferable to palm oil. If you want to know any more
about the biodiesel side of things, or how it compares to ethanol,
let me know.

I'm not sure what the cut off is... but I'd say you might still be
safe since you live downtown with the young folks... I live in a
neighborhood surrounded by retirees who spend the majority of their
time coming up with new neighborhood rules and walking tiny lap dogs.
