Chocolate-milk-in-beer-form YUMMINESS.

From the Belgians: St. Bernardus Abt 12 (10% ABV) and Rochefort 10 (11.30% ABV).

Re: Kickstarting: An Ultra Minimal Shoe, Inspired By Amazon Natives

"A pair of Iguaneyes can be pre-ordered now through Kickstarter for about $65."
This statement is somewhat misleading, as Kickstarter isn't meant to be used as a storefront. If they don't reach their goal, your "order" doesn't happen (your credit card won't be charged). As of this writing, they are only a little over halfway to their goal, with 10 days remaining in the campaign- a pre-order is anything but assured.

Re: Art Attack - Lauren Marmaduke - Attention Artists: Saint Arnold Wants to Pay You $1,000

I felt generous, so I whipped up some photo-based templates for the car. Unfortunately, there's a problem with sending a resume to a company in an industry other than the one you've specialized in, who doesn't know you, or what you're capable of. Your chances aren't very good, especially now.

This is why I love the Project Employment idea- being able to get a real, live referral on a job prospect, from a neighbor (and a friend!), could help people in similar situations get their foot in the door!

Ed and Trish,
Thank you for being sources of hope for people who are running low.

Re: Why I Have to Postpone My Marriage (Again!)

I can think of three:

1) Access to a spouse's employee-subsidized health insurance plan.
2) Ability to make legally binding decisions about a spouse's medical care (including, but not limited to, disconnecting of life support), in the event the spouse is unable to make those decisions for him/herself.
3) Inheritance of property from a spouse's death (in community property states, at least).

Re: Valedictorian Speaks Out Against Schooling in Graduation Speech

"We are told that we can pursue what we want in college. How often is this really true?"

My experience, speaking as someone who was (just barely) able to afford college, it's not true.

Starting with my high school counselor, even before I applied to the university, I was barraged with the question "what is your chosen major?" At 17, being the freshly minted product of a rural high school with few above-the-standard classes, how the heck was I supposed to know this?

No time is allowed to figure out what you really want to do, especially when you only have "one shot" to complete college, financially.

I basically chose a major out of a hat, and sped through the university's course structure for that major as fast as possible- only to find myself completely miserable with a bad choice, made by a 17-year-old. To add insult to injury, I have been laid off, and my chosen field has a 48% unemployment rate.

Now am I forced to REALLY figure out what I want to pursue, but only as a result of being booted by the system that I conformed to, all too well, for the last 36 years.

Re: http://www.alwaysorderdessert.com/2009/11/sweet-carrot-zeppole.html

I *love* the story preceding this recipe! I can't even answer the question "what do you do" without a lot of hemming and hawing, false starts that "I'm an artist," and urges to add "...but not for a living."

Being an artist defines everything about me, but when it comes to the "how do you pay the bills" question, I falter and lose all sense of myself. :(

Re: WARNING: TwitViewer May Be a Phishing Scam

Nearly fell for it myself, but the request for my Twitter password put me off.
