I have noticed that the profiles are getting better and not so easy to dismiss quickly. Another new tactic I have seen is now to use South Asian women. When I complain to LinkedIn, they usually get rid of the fake profile, but as these start to pile up, it can be a real pain to file complaints.

My experiences with Quicken's Mortgage experience has been pretty good - I did a number of refinances with them and the ability to do almost everything online was really convenient and easy. An occasional phone call here and there and the final notarization was pretty much all that wasn't done online.

Having grown up in California, one of my earliest memories of San Francisco is crawling under a locked toilet door because I really had to go! In those days, urinals were often free but toilets were sometimes were not. One of March Fong Eu's accomplishments, and I will always remember this because of that early experience, was to get rid of pay toilets. Only recently did I understand the significance of that move. Since urinals were free but toilets were not, getting rid of the pay toilets was seen as a big move for equal rights for women.

She seemed to have been California Secretary of State forever, as I recall seeing her name in that position for many elections. She was also said to have incorporated registration by mail, expanded the use of absentee ballots, and included candidate statements in election material. That's another set of accomplishments I never knew before reading her obituary.

Although she never ran for the Senate, her son Matt Fong did but lost to Barbara Boxer.

Since Hawaii, where the ukulele took shape, has so many Asians and part Asians, it would make sense that a lot of Asian Americans would play it. I noticed that in San Jose, Hawaiians took up shop in the city's Japantown (http://www.8asians.com/2011..., including places that provided ukulele lessons. The ukulele became something of a fashion statement/trendy thing to do with kids a few years ago (http://www.8asians.com/2011....

Is it still the case with some Asian Americans and the ukulele? About two weeks ago, I was at my son's high school watching him at a track meet, and some Asian American kid was hanging out there playing on his ukulele.

From what I see here on the mainland, Asian Americans who are the people teaching, studying, and playing the ukulele, but you are much closer to the real origins of the instrument and styles and would have a better perspective, which I appreciate. Now that you mention it, I notice a lot of Asian Americans, especially in my area, co-opt things Hawaiian, from Hula to outrigger canoeing to the poke places sprouting up. Thanks also for the pointers to the other influential musicians.

I thought that Eddie's Humpty-Hump costume was a funny yet obscure throwback moment. We caught the show in the middle, and my kids had no idea who he was supposed to be.

Not sure how much can really be done to change that Ivy/Stanford/UC Berkeley or nothing attitude with some parents. I have pointed out here (http://www.8asians.com/2015... how some non-Ivies can be a better return on education dollar, but some families with a lot money don't always seem to care. Even some of the Ivy admissions consultants first try to emphasis best fit over. Baakus's comment on that post is quite observant, as in some circles, that name on the diploma matters even more than job prospects or academics.

Not so much today, but I can see how that would be true in the past. There are large settlements of Filipinos these days with restaurants that survive by catering to Filipinos but not to the larger population. I would say that the restaurant culture definitely is not as strong as with Chinese. Thanks for the summary.

I'm glad that you realize that your original assertion that we have totally avoided black racism is incorrect. Sorry if we haven't written as many as you would have liked. I didn't know we were mostly supposed write posts for your agenda! If we did that, it would really italicize the servile Asian stereotype. Or hasn't that occurred to you?

Got these from using that search tool near the upper right. Use of same search tool finds little on Ferguson, and nothing on turning all black people into saints. I did find a some uses of "strawman" though.
