no, jason -- what i'm saying is, imagine if obama had lost because of race. in other words, what if he had lost, and the reason was race.

but the point is that he didn't. and it's not just obama who benefits from that -- it's all of us.

iceberglsim the problem we have here is that blago wanted to sell the seat, and now he's appointed someone to the seat he wanted to sell.

roland burris may have a good reputation, but how can we trust the he didn't do a deal with blago?

i share your desire to see an aa from Illinois in the senate. it's a sad commentary on the senate that it is easier to get a black man elected president than into the senate.

what i'd like to see is jesse jackson jr. get a shot at the seat, but not by a blago appointment. if i'm wrong abvout him, please tell me (i haven't followed his career closely) but I'm impressed with how he handled this blago nonsense, and convinced that he was doing the right thing by going to the feds about blago's threats to jj's wife.

he strikes me as perhaps the most qualified candidate, and honestly i like the fact that he'd make people feela little unfcomfortable because of his family name.

the problem with burris though is that if he gets seated, he will haunt the obama admin at every step of the way. maybe i'm being too much of a fraidy cat, but that's how i'm seeing it.

i think rush is right int he senate that i'd like to see a black senator from illinois, all things being equal. but you simply can't have a senator appointed by a guy who was recorded conspiring to sell the seat.

i couldn't agree more with you on the race stuff.

i've updated my post some to reflect some of the things you mention.

i guess the most important thing is that the end of the day, under any scenario, the senate has the power to do whatever it wnats.

yeah, it was a crass exploitation of politics. there's no way that blago would have appointed burris without blago thinking it was his get out of jail free card.

No kidding. It was sort of appalling that they tried to sell the DVD at the end of the show. I can see charging people for S&H plus the cost of the physical media, but I don't like the idea of a news division selling trinkets.

Mostly, it was just repackaged stuff, but there were some great moments.

And it was really chilling seeing HRC's "not that I know of" moment again.

I think that's fair Miryam. I'm just waiting for the wingnuts to start making claims about him stealing away to cover up something about his true birth on Mars or something funny like that!

To that end, as aburd as it is, one could argue that the protective poll provides a valuable function insoforas it could debunk the wild-ass claims that are sure to come from freepers.
