Isn't that what school is for, to produce thinking people with an awareness of their historical context? These are high school seniors. What the hell have they been learning at Powder Puff High?

Re: Flood in China | PBS NewsHour

In imperial China, one of the sure signs that the dynasty had lost the "mandate of heaven" was loss of control of the waterways and irrigation systems. That’s Not What Happened.

By focusing on the intelligence debate inside America, the author misses a critical point. Outside The US, it was widely understood by the public that the Bush rush to war was built on bogus claims. Those of us livingin Europe, for example, knew about the UN reports that there was no WMD buildup because we had a media that reported it. Americans were willing to be mislead because we were angry about 9/11, and the public and the media embraced the macho, Hollywood response.

Re: Dangerous Minds | Diana Rigg stars in bizarre German ‘stag films for Avengers’ fetishists’

Rechecked my facts. My bad... Of course Honor Blackman was a very handsome woman. Julie Stevens was in there too somewhere, but she was cute. Anyway, the "Emma Peel" name part is true, even if I can't figure out quite why the earlier sidekick (whichever one she was) didn't seem to have enough of it.

Re: Dangerous Minds | Diana Rigg stars in bizarre German ‘stag films for Avengers’ fetishists’

"Emma Peel". One of the critical elements the casting people were looking for in the new sidekick after the previous one (not particularly attractive) left the earlier show.

Re: Amphibious landing operation in the Arctic

Per-Vidar - Norway's "sosialist/marxist government"??? Your "first step" discussion considered how companies can "eavesdrop" on new media conversations, and eventually how to participate to increase their understanding. In addition to pitching a client on having a better "snapshot" of what's happening now, it seems to me more interesting and profitable to have the client consider the obvious benefits of actually sponsoring & building an ongoing "community". Surely the greatest potential of these new tools is to build lasting discussions between individuals and "trusted" institutions the same way that personal blog networks develop. "I read him, commented, he read mine, commented, now we have dialogues, we're in each others' neighborhood".
Other key elements in the discussion include clients dealing with a whole new level of transparency, their business ethics and handling criticism, and the other real responsibilities inherent in taking that step to build a community, the members of which become real stakeholders in the company/institution.

Re: Watch This: The New ‘Amelia’ Trailer

Captivating story, great cast... is the writing up to it, or did they dumb down / romance up? Behind the well-outed 'death of newspapers' story, there's a huge crisis in ad revenue, but the old groups still pretend to the outside world that they can somehow carry their old structures and overheads across to digital without a complete overhaul.
When the industry shareholders get wind of this, that the "crisis in journalism" has wider implications going to the core of media companies, then the perceived value, and the stock prices, of big groups, including my former employer and your current one, and going to tank like savings and loan stocks did last year.
Wonder how many media CEOs & CFOs have quietly re-enforced their golden parachutes over the last 24 months? How many will announce their early retirements over the next 12? (Having suddenly realized how much more time they'd like to spend with their families.)
The form of your video really pushes the envelope, amusing but on the edge of distraction.
I too love the little wave from the flight check-in desk lady at the end.
Sorry we won't get a chance to meet in Paris.
