It's great to see so many familiar and fabulous Twitter handles. I am a great fan of the #usguys philosophy and @Josepf. Here's to meeting as many of #usguys IRL as possible! Anybody up for a Philly tweetup? Until we meet or tweet, @jeannemale

Re: What YouTube can do for pharma | eyeforpharma.com | Pharma strategy for the busy executive

Hi, Eileen:

Good topic, ideas and coverage. I agree with every concept presented. Educators have long known of the stopping and retention power of video and I believe that the FDA have done industry a favor. The key learning that "safety information must be embedded in the video" and avoidance of relegating safety information to the end benefits marketers for two key reasons. 1- Embedding full disclosure throughout the video not only provides fair balance, it allows for better risk/benefit positioning. 2 -The law of primacy and recency are important in marketing. Ending even the most compelling messaging with a raft of side effects or auctioneer style warnings feels akin to fine print; it is the last thing people will remember and leaves a negative impact.

A lot of lip service has been paid to "restoring trust" in the industry yet we continue to see warning letters like that issued for Kaletra. Not only are the above two learnings ethical, they are good marketing business practice in every respect.

Re: Five Simple Truths – Nurturing Workplace Culture

Important discussion for all levels of leadership/management - yes, it IS the responsibility of everyone in the organization and time to stop the finger-pointing. Meghan, your balance between best practices and real-world operations provide the "voice of reason" and realistic solutions.

Re: Email Etiquette for the Super-Busy

Strong list, Jocelyn - I'm sure many readers were nodding in agreement! Frankly, I learned most of them in the school of corporate hard knocks and wish everyone would follow your suggestions. In fact, I'm planning to post a link on the LinkedIn JobLife Architects group.

Since we are speaking of etiquette: there are times when we should send a "thanks". If that's all that needs to be said, it can be as simple as the word, "thanks" in the subject line followed by EOM for "end of message".

Re: Scripting News: A simple thought about political correctness

Dave, your first sentence says it all and may be central to why progress may not be occur at the rate needed in the US. By nature, progressives and liberal Democrats tend toward a "live and let live" philosophy and suppress dissent accordingly. The far right understand that if people hear something enough times from enough sources, it must be true and are emboldened to take an evangelical stance.

The right to speak is so fundamental to our freedom that I believe even the greatest of pacifists would take up arms to defend it. However, the term "correctness" connotes manners and decorum and as such, we must acknowledge a key difference between the "right to speak" and "foisting one's beliefs".

Re: Provided by the Management for Your Protection

Truth - well said, with a twist of loving irreverence.

Re: The Experience of Being | Yoga In Daily Life

Randall, how I loved this passage and read it over again and again: "Being is the hidden treasure within us, and most of the time we don’t even know it is there. Yet it is the substratum of life, and the source of all happiness, love and meaning in our lives. So in addition to doing, it is also essential to fully experience and integrate being into our lives." Ahhh...yoga!

Regarding Monica's book, "Other Esteem", I think she's got both a vital concept and great title. We worry so much about self-esteem but it is a boomerang or mirror - when we hold others in the highest positive regard, it comes back. We create our reality through love.

Nicely done yet again my precious friend.

Re: Does Work-Life Balance Exist?

Work-life balance is possible. It isn't about spending equal amounts of time but rather about clarity around what is important to us. It's also about saying no to what we don't need (to buy) and also to what we don't want (to do). When my daughter was young and I was climbing the corporate ladder I had no work/life balance at all. I think I have finally achieved a pretty good balance but it's only because I have worked for myself for the past 13 years. I am far from the poster-person for balance because I may spend some days working long hours to meet a client deadline but other weekdays attending to family or household needs or even an occasional trip to the spa. For me the balance is in spending my time in a way that serves my family and clients without doing a disservice to myself...but that doesn't mean that my boss isn't a slave-driver.

Re: Referral Counter

I'm delighted to refer 3 of my most trusted and long-standing colleagues:

1. I love your action-oriented approach. Thanks to SM, my inner circle is expanding in terms of those trusting me with with their business ideas, asking for advice and help but I'm not certain whether the relationship is mutual. I just may take you up on your excellent assignment as a way to test the waters. It sure beats asking for a quid pro quo in order to identify where the relationship stands or is going.

Re: Karen Swin (2 of 2)

Providence helped Karen to "find" me in 2004. I hope that I helped to carry her but it was she that lifted me the whole time.
