I've been wrestling with something similar regarding blog posts I write on The Green Skeptic. If I write something about social entrepreneurs, I'd like it to post to certain social networking sites/groups I manage (such as changemakers.gather.net). Can I do this with feeds? I'm not sure. You see, I don't want my posts on climate change, clean tech, or microfinance (the other topics I write about) to appear on my social entrepreneurs groups, so a generic feed from my blog won't do. Plus there are different protocols for posting/formatting on gather, zaadz, etc. Not sure how you override those...Any ideas?

Re: Can You Make Money Blogging?

I like the fact that you shill for the companies you invest in and appreciate your transparency in doing so. I suspect others do it all the time, but just don't let their readers know. What I like most about the way you do it is your genuine enthusiasm -- it's enthusiasm versus boosterism. More often than not, you come off sounding more like a fan than an investor. And you demonstrate the same level of enthusiasm for the music you like. As a result, I've learned about more than one interesting venture (Twitter, Wallstrip, last.fm, etc.) and quite a bit of music (Arctic Monkeys, Jens Lekman, etc.) by reading your blog and some good restaurants by following you on Twitter. You've earned my trust as a reader. So, keep on with your enthusiastic and open love affair with the companies, innovations, and music that rock your world.

Re: The Barbecue Feast

Yum! I was pulling for McCain early on, but he has killed his candidacy and I don't there's any recovering. For my taste, the other GOP candidates are just too socially conservative (or at least, they want you to think they are; what skeletons to they have in the men's room?).

Obama has charisma, but charisma hasn't won a race since Clinton's first term. Hillary is just too untrustworthy and Edwards, well, is not a winner, despite his Twittering.

That said, I'm willing to hear-out Obama and will seek out an opportunity to do so. Oh, and I'm a poet, too.

I don't get much sleep, usually about 5 hours, so I do have time to devote to each of these pursuits. Some say it's too much or that we can't possibly be good at all of them. Well, I've off-loaded plenty of things (I used to be in a band that opened for the Psychadelic Furs over 20 years ago; don't do that anymore).

Truth is, I love what I do and wouldn't want it any other way. I'm curious and stimulated and excited about all of it. That's why I do it. One clarification: I'm not sure the description of what Leslie said about the Philanthropy 400 is accurate. I think she was talking about groups that were started since the 1960s...certainly The Nature Conservancy (founded in 1951) broke into the top 25 while I was there and reached number 10 on the charts.

Another anomaly that made the charts was Fidelity's Charitable giving arm. THAT sent shockwaves through the industry, as I recall.

Anyway, I'm continuing my dialogue -- in part inspired by the Hacking Philanthropy sessions -- over at The Green Skeptic (http://greenskeptic.blogspo...) and with Lucy Bernholz at Philanthropy 2173 (http://philanthropy.blogspo...).
