I am happy to tell you I have successfully implemented your strategy a number of times, although sometimes I am not sure if my understanding of the sell order to place is correct (instances in which my ETF is already trading below its 200 day EMA, or the ETF is already in the red for me). Can you please comment on my understanding below and correct any discrepancies? Or would it be possible to post an entry with a specific example?

For example, lets say that today I bought 100 shares of SPY, priced at about $105 per share. Currently, according to your ETF analyzer, SPY is 9.61% above its 200 day EMA. Therefore, what is the specific sell order you would enter now, immediatley after purchase? Would you enter a trailing stop loss of 8%? Or would you enter a trailing stop loss, set at the 200 day EMA (which appears to be about $95, per your ETF analyzer)?

As the moving average changes every day, is it necessary to update the sell orders (to the updated 200 day EMA) every day as well?

Any response or feedback would be appreciated. I'd also like to thank Tom again for all that I've already learned and implemented!

Re: Commodity ETFs: When Will the Trend Come Back?

Tom,

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out which commodity etf/etn to use - if you had the choice between GSG & DJP, which do you prefer? I have been using DJP, but due to the fact that it is an ETN, I've been planning on moving over to GSG instead (of course only when they are trending the right way!).
