I personally think that more (rather than less) accelerators are better for the startup community, however there needs to be greater transparency around the offering, the T&Cs (the devil is in the detail) and the results from the programmes at a micro level - company by company (it is all too easy for one team to massively distort the results).

It's encouraging to see so many initiatives join the efforts to support startups across Europe - particularly Luis and Alex who have been pushing this hard in Madrid.

We are still lagging behind Amercia in their endeavours to promote entrepreneurialship. We should all get behind programmes that are helping European startups reach their potential. Another deadline for startups to consider - 20th February - www.springboard.com.

This is really cool. It does 2 significant things

1. Makes browsing on a non-3G network usable
2. Restricting access to 2G will also improve the battery life of the G1 - take that iPhone

This is great news. It has to effects:

1. Internet browsing becomes usable in non 3G areas
2. More importantly, switching off 3G access should increase the battery life of the G1 - take that iPhone ;-)

Am interested but the prospect of £40 for 18mths (£720) is a little steep for someone who has a desk job and uses less than 200 mins a month.

I mean, it is starting to make the iPhone look cheap!! don't tell Steve, he'll be really pissed

This is all great ... but have a couple of questions

1. Can you get the phone on any other tariff? I don't need lots of mins and texts are irrelevant if I can email/twitter

2. Are these going to be available in the "usual outlets" or is this a TMob store only deal?

Always have a spare phone in each of the cars (and a charger).

The car mobiles are also a different network from my (and wifes) network - so that if we hit a dead spot - there is a chance the second phone will work.

My key concerns with the netbooks are twofold - how robust are they? and does it have an integrated 3G modem (rather than a dongle)?

I am relatively comfortable with dell's quality, but what about the lenovo or samsung netbook.

Dell also seemed to have planned 3g modem integration from day1 (see vodafone announcement) - it will be interesting if it will be possible to buy a 3g card from HK and add to the dell without having to pay a premium to dell. I wonder who else will provide integrated 3g.

Plug in your "three" sim at £10 a month and you're off. very cool.

With Android only being only a few weeks away, I do not think this is a coincidence.

Both Apple and Opera have linked their mobile and desk based browsers, so it seems natural that Google should do so as well.

I think that this is has been deliberately leaked (by HTC) to put all the rumours of delays to bed - the timing of the video seems a little more than coincidental.

Dave, what if Apple were to launch a netbook similar to your new Asus using the new Atom platform (it might explain the shortages). All the other major PC makers are involved in the space (Dell due to join in August).

It would also sit nicely in the overall range - and it could use the iPhone OS, and it would also have significant impact in margins.

I think that this demostrates the fundamental model that the US has taken to a (closed) healthcare system - which is considered the best in the world - but also the most expensive. Until there is some form of meaningful compulsory baseline public healthcare (and therefore additional tax), it will be very difficult to create a market where individuals effectively cross insure themselves and not be fearful of pre-existing conditions - which is much more common in Europe.

Agreed completely. Less is more ... less ads ... more monies.

At last years developer conference Google placed alot of emphasis on geographical location ... as a generality "stuff closer" is more important/valuable that "staff faraway" .... which translates into $$$. This is why Google have invested so much into Android.
