Thanks for pointing that out. It is back up right, I've had some trouble with some of the changes in the dependencies that I've updated for other apps. Yeah I completely agree, dont modify code files. I assume this has been fixed in the later version of codeigniter (I'm not much of a user anymore) since this blog post is a couple years old.

Thanks! I definitely didnt explore the mountains as much as I should have while in Santa Monica, but the next time I'm there I will have to check it out for sure. Thanks for the suggestions. There really is a lot to explore in Southern California, and it is a great place to be outdoors. I wouldn't mind living there again.

Cool. I went the local apache route(I have url rewrites etc to deal with and other settings on most projects) But this is great for projects that are mostly JS, I'll give this a try.

As a side note: dont you think it would be awesome of github had project comments/discussion?

Yep. And let me say too, Strophe is awesome. Strophe.js is great, xmpp client with simple JQuery like syntax. I hope a lot of people are using it, is a really a great library. Do you have any usage or download stats for it?

With the web stack, you dont have jump in fully to everything right away. There are simple ways to get started, to build something without knowing much. Then once you understand those more basic pieces, people seek out to expand their ability and knowledge. People learn more, in order to be able to do more. XMPP needs good basic start points. I'm thinking of way back in the day to Geocities. I didnt need to know about how to configure a webserver, i didnt need to know html /css /javascript, but as I learned more, I was able to use more and I progressed beyond that initial starting point.

I think there is a lot of progress being made recently in making the initial barrier to entry for XMPP smaller. And I'm looking forward to that bring more developers.

I hear your pain Ryan, I too have experienced many issues with the new service, though not to the same level. Mobile me was rushed, no doubt about it. And it has tarnished the good name of Apple. Apple is held to a high standard, and over the last year they have slipped a bit in living up to that. I have to say that Mobile Me has seemed to stabilize for now, I havent had any issues in about 6 weeks. But I think we are learning something new about Apple products, dont buy them as soon as they come out...wait let them fix the problems, release a couple of updates, then buy. And that is a sad, sad fact.
