It's getting beyond acceptable.

It's disappointing that my blog has become a dumping ground for such activity.

For those of you who've experienced a bad relationship and heartbreak - that's truly unfortunate and I hope you find happiness. However, these are faults of the individual, not of a race, culture or religion. Don't use these as a target for your anger - infidelity is pervasive in every country and religion on this earth; don't fool yourselves otherwise.

I actually am an example of an Indonesian and American marriage which has worked very well for nearly 9 years. Someday perhaps I'll tell my own story to help balance the plethora of negativity present on this post.

Re: http://www.pinoytumblr.com/post/2609823468

I actually took this pic - this isn't an effect. It's one shot - not a composite. It's slightly less than clear due to the raindrops through the window. This was taken from the 36th floor of my condo in Makati overlooking the north side of Makati.

Cheers,
Brandon
http://www.thejavajive.com/...

Re: A stroll through Gion

Thanks Andrew. Sleep
2. Read a book
3. Look out the window and appreciate the phenomenon of flight that we all too often take for granted.

Yes I'm speaking to the passenger who immediately closes the window shade after take-off. After 20 years of flying around the globe, I still love looking out the window - it's a real-life Google Earth.

I've seen some amazing sights while others were sleeping or geeking out with their devices: the extreme differences in landscape of Africa from Cape Town to Germany, Italy from the air (seeing both sides at once), Mt. Fuji multiple times, fires on Java, Mt. Bromo peaking above the clouds, the crazy number of ships in Singapore's harbor, the actual tiny size of Ireland from the air, the stunning use of land in Hong Kong (or mis-use depending on your perspective), the rolling hills of Germany, the extra-ordinary hight of the Alps, the three beautiful volcanoes which formed Bali.

I gain a new appreciation for the size and variety of the earth each time I fly and take the time to look out the scratched hatch.

Cheers from Manila, Philippines.

Re: Health benefits of coffee vs tea [infographic]

Care to digress?

Re: Geisha of Gion

Thanks Mark. This particular photo was actually taken after sundown; most of the ambient light is coming from nearby street lamps, and I bumped up the exposure a bit. So I suppose your statement rings true. Cheers.

Re: Canon S95 Miniature Effect Mode

James - great site you have. As you may have seen, I'm very into biking as well. Loved some of the designs you've blogged about.

In terms of cameras, the S95 is far, far more pocketable than the G12, which I wouldn't actually call pocketable at all. I've had it for about 5 months now and can easily recommend it. Cheers.

Re: Western Men, Indonesian Women.

To be honest, I'm not sure if I should allow the comments on this post to continue or shut down the entire post. I understand it's important for you all to voice your opinions in an open and respective manner, but I'm seeing more and more blatant racism, lack of respect, generalizations, and unneeded aggression.

The purpose of this blog was never to provide a platform for such activity.

Re: An act of affection in a moment of violence

Thanks for the interesting feedback MangoChow. Our own personal safety? Theft from non-violent or violent attackers?

Many expats are absolutely shielded from the "real" Manila - which is exactly why I'm striving to get out into the city more. What's the point in living in a foreign country if all you see are the insides of Starbucks, malls, and fancy restaurants?

Re: Canon S95: A fantastic backup to my DSLR (full review with sample photos)

Hi Matt. Thanks for dropping in so frequently. :)

I agree, if you have the S90, there's no sense in moving up. I do wish the flash could be put back down again manually without a button - too many things to break. :)

You should see the differences between the G7 and the S95 in anything about ISO 400 - incredible strides they've made in noise reduction (plus the extra stop of light helps).

When are you moving to Indonesia? Gotta wade through my emails soon to answer you properly.

Re: Canon S95: A fantastic backup to my DSLR (full review with sample photos)

Casper - the S40 was my very first digital camera. $430 in 2002. Loved that thing but had no clue what I was doing. :)

I'm sure the LX5 is a wonderful camera; it just didn't work for me only because of the fact that I need something always with me - without the stipulation that I must always carry a bag of some sort. (otherwise I'll bring the 5D2).

Re: Canon S95: A fantastic backup to my DSLR (full review with sample photos)

Gail, I've seen lots of Nikon aficionados using Canon for compact cameras. The size and sensor capabilities alone makes this one stand out from the crowd. If it were any larger, I'd be leaving it at home. This is also why I couldn't go for the 4/3 or G12 cams - simply too large.

I suggest going to have a play with these various cameras. They've come a long way in only a few years in terms of reducing noise levels.

Re: Photographing Manila as an expat

Thanks, John. I started out with the Canon 300d, then 350d, 5D, (and 40d which I still use), and finally the 5D Mk II. The 350d served me very well for a while. Hope you'll continue to drop by.

Re: Two more weeks until America – and a bit of miscellaneous rambling

Thanks Matt.
