It's great that you've reached the level of success that you did, but be careful about the humblebrag. I think it's disingenuous to brag about your success under the guise of a) saying you're lucky and b) trying to offer advice to would-be entrepreneurs.

Re: StylistPick secures $8m in Series A to expand its monthly fashion offers

Congrats Felix and team!

Re: Europe’s next big tech startup will probably begin with the letter S

Samsonite! Our career fairs were filled with the Goldman Sachs and the Accentures as well.

I think the main difference between the States and the UK (besides the oft cited aversion to risk) is that technical founders are known and talked about in America. Gates, Jobs, Dell, Ellison, Khosla, Zuckerberg, Brin, Page, etc. How many tech CEOs can you name from the UK?

Therefore, I think, the media should do more to promote successful founders. The media in the UK seems to over emphasise celebrities and royals. Zuckerberg and Evan Williams were on Oprah, Kevin Rose on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, eg.

Re: Betfair’s David Yu: The Patience of a Saint Running a $2B Company for Sinners (TCTV)

Betfair has been a great success in the UK and they have brought fantastic innovation to the betting industry. I'm the founder of Smarkets where we're seeking to build on Betfair's success, bring online trading to the next level and continue the innovation that Betfair started.

Re: You Won't See The Palm Pre On Me

The iPhone isn't exactly an open device either. The phone is locked to the carrier that you purchased the phone with so SIM swapping isn't that useful. Tethering is blocked. Bluetooth is blocked. File sharing is blocked. VOIP over 3G is blocked. I love the UI interaction on the iPhone but I'm tempted to switch to the G phone b/c platforms and software should be open. I should be able to install whatever app I want without having to jailbreak it.

Re: Why I’m (still) long Apple

While Apple does have great products, I think their current competitive advantage will narrow over time. Most new interaction with software occurs via a browser. It's becoming effortless to switch between windows/mac/linux/iphone/gphone/etc with many apps.

I do agree, however, that the current trend of people buying Macs will continue. Anything that gets people off of a Windows dependency will be a positive development.

Re: The Sincerest Form Of Flattery? - mediabistro.com: TVNewser

This is an old story for TV and print.
