Unless they set new movies or whatever back then, in a time that BioWare basically carved out as their own, nothing is going to contradict the Old Republic setting.

The invalidation of the EU affects anything around the movies and going forward. Everything else will probably not be affected. Why would it be?

Re: What will Arenas mean for Warzones?

If playing Ranked (and thus arenas) is a faster way to earn Ranked Warzone Commendations, then that's what people will tend to do at level 55.

I've yet to see a breakdown on how the comms are awarded. Is there a base amount for a win? Do you get the same, less or nothing for a loss? Are extra comms awarded with each medal?

If the rate of return is sufficient, there won't really be any point in doing unranked warzones/arenas at all. After all, one's rating only changes when participating in ranked arenas.

So I suspect you're right *if* doing ranked is a faster way of getting comms!

Is Bolster disabled in ranked? I know it wasn't with 8v8, so I'm guessing it still won't be with arenas.

Re: SWTOR Space, Patch or Expansion?

We do know that they are planning class balance changes for Game Update 2.5. The class representative program is going on hiatus (after the last two sets of questions are answered this week) until after 2.5.

They've also mentioned Game Updates 2.5 and 2.6 in passing, without any hints at content.

From what Damien Schubert said at the Community Cantina in Seattle, the SSSP will be in an expansion or major update.

But I agree with you that the SSSP seems more an additional game element than sufficient content to make up an expansion. Thus releasing it as an update makes sense.

There's been zero hint of story content beyond 2.4, and we also know that 2.4 wraps up the Dread Masters story.

We do know there's a new Huttball map (the picture of somewhere on Quesh), so that could drop in 2.5. We got CZ-198 in 2.3, and Oricon is coming in 2.4 (daily area and two operations).

The Rakghoul Plague event is returning sometime too!

So yeah, I'm kind of baffled. I'd say it wouldn't be in 2.5 (too soon, and too little build up), but when exactly, and in what form, is pretty up in the air. I'd say they would charge for it as a standalone optional xpac, or maybe make it sub-only. As to when... 2.6 (or 3.0) would drop in mid to late Jan. It seems they really should have something big for the holiday break.

My final prediction:

1. Drop 2.5 with class balance changes and maybe new Huttball early (5 Nov)
2. Drop 2.6 with SSSP on 10-17 Dec along with Rakghoul Plague live event.
3. Announce 3.0 xpac with new planet(s), ops, Flashpoints for mid-Feb.

Confidence on this is pretty low. I've really got no clue. :-)

Re: The Fickle Fangirl, A ramble about online harassment and giving in...

Solid, down-to-earth advice, Leala. The recently announced 10.2M subs, unchanged since the previous quarter, is due pretty much entirely to (a) the annual pass and (b) their scroll of resurrection, that allows lapsed accounts to re-sub and get an instance level 80.

The pandas shocked and disappointed a lot of people, and I really wouldn't be surprised if the decline continues, at least once the annual pass expires (around October). Of course, I'm guessing that Blizzard will offer a second annual pass, requiring you to stay sub'd for another year, in return for getting the MoP expansion for free.

No one game is killing WoW. But it's a death of a few dozen cuts, as people drift off to one game or another. SWTOR, RIFT, soon GW2. Blizzard has a chance to stem that with the upcoming xpac, but really, pandas? Pokemon? Farmville? For those who seem to need a reason to leave their game of choice, Blizzard handed it to them.

Re: Flash Point 33: Nutless Monkeys and Lightwhips

What's your source for only 100 let go from BioWare Austin, versus the rumoured 200?

Regarding Ed's negativity towards the Group Finder: an MMO is a social game in that there are other people around. Sure, you can engage with them to form groups, and obviously people do, or do so mostly within their own guilds. A Group Finder tool removes the awkwardness of trying to start a group off, allowing those who otherwise wouldn't organise a group to have a chance of doing Flashpoints. Providing a way of grouping with others quickly and conveniently is worth a lot.

As far as seeing the world(s) goes, having a Group Finder means you'll be able to go exploring, finding Datacrons, farming, all while waiting for your group to pop. Once it does, a shuttle will arrive (teleporting you to the Flashpoint), and will also (presumably) return you to where you were when you're done. At the moment, with all the Flashpoints accessible from the Fleet or the two on Ilum, you're pretty much forced to hang around on the Fleet to find a group. There's only so many times you can do laps on your speeder!

Finally, for Tim: in Diablo 3, under Options -> Social, in the bottom right there's a checkbox for "Allow Quick Join", which is on by default. Uncheck that, and your friends can only jump into your game if you invite them!

Re: Mega Merger

Mega-servers for sure!

At least for me, the server community thing has never had any meaning; my experience centres around my friends and my guild. You get to vaguely recognise some of the more active participants in general chat on the Fleet, but it's pretty random.

Having (for example) a single PvE server in North America (along with a PvP server, maybe an RP-PvE server), with the existing phasing technology splitting the population into layers as needed, seems ideal. We'll never be short of players, whatever zone you enter will always be well-populated... it gives us what cross-server Group Finder and warzones would have. Conceptually it's the same thing.

Given WoW is doing nearly the same thing with zones being shareable between servers, this trend seems to be the future. Remove the server boundaries, so players don't get trapped on low-pop islands! Sounds great to me.

Re: SWTOR Video News: the 400K Drop Issue

Actually, the 1.3 million subscriber count is from the end of April, according to EA execs during the investor call:

"Let me provide you with an update on Star Wars. Through the end of the quarter approximately 2.4 million units have sold through. In our last call we indicated that we had 1.7 million active subscribers, and as of the end of April, we now have 1.3 million, with a substantial portion of the decrease due to casual and trial players cycling out of the subscriber base, driving up people who are all percentage of paying subscribers."

Source: http://files.shareholder.co...

Re: Server transfers: has your toon made the jump?

I logged in this morning to find the level 1 "transfer mule" (a placeholder character I'd created to hold a name) I'd requested to be transferred had been taken across. My legacy level was the same, and the legacy unlocks were all present (e.g., the other class buffs).

I was honestly surprised it had happened so quickly! I'd been dreading the 3 hours of downtime as they transferred the character sometime this week... While I'm running hard modes with my guildmates, it's not often that we have enough with the correct set of roles on at the same time, who can commit the hour or so that flashpoints seem to need. The FF would allow us to PUG a spot easily, or individually PUG.

Assuming the FF supports direct teleport to the flashpoint's instance/phase, it would allow us to hang out wherever we like, rather than being effectively trapped on the Fleet.

This would be even more useful for leveling, if you could queue for a flashpoint while questing, as you can in WoW.

In terms of maintaining a community, if cross-server queuing was added (and I realise they're philosophically opposed to the concept) the most useful feature they could add to a Flashpoint Finder would be an option to limit the group to your own server. If you chose that option, your wait would probably be longer, but that's the price to pay versus being grouped with players from possibly other servers.

Re: Christian SWTOR Guild Takes Issue with Profanity in Game ~ Star Wars The Old Republic | SWTOR

If the example used was "damn", it did appear in the movies; the following are from Episode IV:

Han Solo: Damn fool, I knew you were going to say that.
Obi-Wan: ... That same trend applies to the portion of those numbers pertaining to rape.
