Even if it were, it wouldn't need to look "historic" as much as it would need to match scale, proportion, pattern, relationships of the existing fabric.

Re: Live Urban Jacksonville Weekly Tonight

Great show last night. We all need to get behind the Laura Street Trio project, should be a spark for downtown momentum.

Can't wait for the next live show....

Also that was my first time at Underbelly, for the after party....awesome outdoor space, will be going back for sure.

Re: Laura Trio Mega Deal Could Change the Face of Downtown Jacksonville

Correct, and it looks like they have done a great job with this. Love the juxtaposition with the preserved historical buildings and the new modern design.

Re: Urban Jacksonville Weekly #46 – Downtown Dilemma Wrap Up With David Hunt

We certainly want to play a role....

Re: Urban Jacksonville Weekly #46 – Downtown Dilemma Wrap Up With David Hunt

I agree with David's recommendation, fully. Hopefully our city leaders will do that as well as Jax residents. We did, that's why as you know, we started the Urban Facelift Project.

What I do think would help downtown is the abundance of buildings and empty storefronts, as long as people see the potential in them. They don't have to remain eyesores and dilapidated, but they certainly don't need to be torn down.

Instead of such a big focus on bringing large companies and new buildings downtown, what if we were able to help small businesses and mom and pops open up in the existing stock of storefronts. Obviously what we're doing is not working, time to do something else, something more, and something great.

Re: Folio Weekly’s Best Of » Urban Jacksonville Wins Best Jacksonville Blog

Oh you caught that? Jokes.

I was basing it entirely on championship production. We'll see how my Gators do this year, if we win another NC I'll call you the Gators of Jax.

Re: Folio Weekly’s Best Of » Urban Jacksonville Wins Best Jacksonville Blog

Denied. Ha!

But seriously, congrats on the win. You're quickly becoming the Yankees of Jax blogs.

Re: Man Killed at Shantytown Last Night

I've heard from a couple people that the victim was actually the one trying to rob the place....none of those were eyewitnesses, though.

Re: Quality of Life at Stake Part II

Well said Joey.

To be honest Atlanta, and lesser so Seattle, has been a real draw for me professionally. Architecture and design in those cities is much more progressive than what we have here in Jacksonville. (All one needs to do is compare the Public Libraries of Seattle and Jacksonville.)

But, one of the things keeping me here is the potential that we have in Jacksonville and really being able to help get the movement for better design/culture/arts off of the ground. This is obviously one of the reasons we started The Urban Facelift Project.

However, for me It will be more gratifying and exciting to be part of the pioneering group in a city that is ready and has potential, than to go off to a city where you become a follower behind a line of people that previously laid down the gauntlet.

Re: Encouraging Economic Development in Jacksonville Through Urban Planning

We do have talent here, and like the discussion with Audrey's "Why I Love Jacksonville" post, we lose quite a bit of our talent to other cities. Its also nice to get some outside perspective as well, however.

The city obviously went elsewhere and with a big name for the downtown library and that building, at least from the exterior, is very underwhelming and does absolutely nothing for the pedestrian.

But, I digress...

I guess the point is we have very capable people in Jacksonville, just not in the positions we need them in, yet.

Re: Urban Jacksonville Turns 5 Today

I think the first time I met you was at 9th and Main when government officials were speaking about handing over the Job Corp building to River Region.
