Over time, it became evident that they’re weren’t really developing the platform, let bugs continue to grow, and overall just ignored it. I don’t believe that Apple ever made PwerSchool development a priority, and that the platform was getting left behind.

Re: Official NES Classic Edition bag may imply more consoles on the way

I'm guessing Nintendo wants 2017 to be the year of the Nintendo Switch, especially Christmas sales. I could see them coming out with a SNES Classic in 2018 or 2019 though.

Re: Apple is so rich, it could buy all of the gold in Fort Knox

MBL Teams?

Re: Digg Blog, We’re building out the new Digg. Wanna help?

Why not have a front page with Digg-curated articles, but include a link to discussions for those that want to join in. You can have sub-pages with user-submitted content (tabs at the top maybe?). Top content from those sub pages could be highlighted on the front page by the admin. It would be sort of a hybrid approach.

Re: The Hail Mary Plan to Stop Rhino Poaching By Growing Horns in a Lab

That's not how the market works. The poachers take a huge risk to put their lives in jeopardy because they have the opportunity for a huge profit. If the market is loaded and the lab-grown horns "drive down the cost," which you stated, most poachers will not get the huge profit, and will not be willing to put their lives in harm's way for such a tiny profit. It's about risk vs. reward as well as supply and demand.

In spite of that, I think it would be better if the demand for the horns disappeared completely, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Re: Could "Gatorponics" Revive Defunct Chicken Farms? : TreeHugger

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

FCRs don't take into account the FCR for the feed. For example:

I could grow 10,000 kg of vegetation. I could take that 10,000 kg to grow 1,000 kg of chickens. That 1,000 kg of chickens could be used to grow 100 kg of gators. FCRs don't take the entire ecological impact into account, only the direct input needed for feed.

Re: Could "Gatorponics" Revive Defunct Chicken Farms? : TreeHugger

Sheep are vegetarians, and pigs are raised on a mostly vegetarian. You could raise 1000 pounds of chicken to eat, or feed that 1000 pounds of chicken meat to gators to get 100 pounds of meat. Which one is better on the environment?

Here's a Wikipedia article on how trophic levels affect biomass conversion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

With the same science, it takes 10,000 pounds of vegetation to feed those chickens, leading some to argue for a purely vegetarian diet. I won't argue that point at all, but eating organisms on a higher trophic level are only 10% as efficient as the organisms on the lower trophic level. Eating carnivores is always less efficient than eating herbivores.

FCRs are nice for computing feed inputs, but don't take any ecological components into account. For example, it doesn't take the fcr of the chickens into account when calculating the fcr for the gators. FCR is purely a representation of what the animal has to eat in able to grow, not the total input required for that feed.

Re: Could "Gatorponics" Revive Defunct Chicken Farms? : TreeHugger

Gators are carnivores. As such, you have to raise about 10 times as much mass of vegetarians (like chickens) to feed them. Raising carnivores for food is never ecologically sound, because it adds an extra layer to the food chain.

Re: I Want You, Useless iPad : TreeHugger

This is ridiculous. The iPad is very useful for many people. I have a laptop that is about 5 years old, and it's definitely slowing down and becoming less functional. Most of what I use my laptop for can be done on an iPad. As a laptop replacement, an iPad (or tablet in general) has less material in its production and disposal than a laptop. It uses more efficient processors, using less power than most laptops. And it's more portable than a laptop. When my laptop finally dies (which may be very soon), I'll probably replace it with a tablet. I'll probably use it as an e-reader as well. For me (and many others), a tablet is a laptop replacement. It's totally functional and useful.

Re: Peru Painting Andes White Because it Could be Cool

What will this do to local animals who are adapted to an environment with dark rocks?

Re: Social Media Schematic

Check this out, you can eliminate Mirror Blog on Facebook AND it copies your links and pictures over!
