We grew up in South Carolina and visited Pegues Place in Cheraw, SC when I was a child of perhaps 10 years old. At that time Jenny Mae Pegues Fitzsimmons (also a descendant of James) and her husband Paul resided there. The visit was arranged from contact by my great uncle, Travis Pegues of Jackson, TN. As a child, I do remember Jenny Mae did show us a sword that was supposed to have belonged to Claudius,Jr. in the American Revolution. Being a child at the time, I am unsure of how much my memory can be trusted and, unfortunately, every one else present is dead now except my sister who was even younger than me. Someone, perhaps Jenny May, but I don't know for certain, provided my great uncle with a very extensive family tree that goes back to Claudius, Sr. with all descendants from all families. One notation on the list of descendants indicates that some of the information came from the old English Bible owned by Lillian Pegues Birdsong of Brookhaven, MS.

Re: Power Line - Blame it on Rio, not Obama

Right before I read your comment Mr. Bruce, I thought, "Gee, Paul would make a good replacement for David Brooks." And talk about tin-eared!?! They seem bound to exalt every radical, rotten, valueless element of society that exists. This makes the Van Jones episode look like nothing. And, ultimately, this will turn our country into Rome.

Re: Power Line - Two Possibilities Here

BRAVO!!!!

Re: Power Line - Why Tom Friedman should have followed his alleged instincts

Who in these comments have criticized him for not being a citizen, etc.? They, the liberals like Friedman, actually believe Obama is a savior and Bush was a devil. This is principally because they are unbound, as Paul or Scott described Obama last week, by history. They are also unbound by facts and reality. This enables them to create two different universes--one in which it is okay to destroy (figuratively and literally) a President they despise and another where they openly worship a President they consider a divine creation. Any criticism of their divinity is labeled everything from racist to life threatening. Any praise of the devil is considered neanderthal. It's very easy to do when you can suspend history, facts and reality at will.

Re: Power Line - When Sarkozy mocked Obama, part 2

Brilliant comment.

Re: Power Line - Civility, Ours and Theirs

This is an excellent parody of that nitwit and long overdue. Paul said Obama was unbounded by history. Above Scott noted that Obama misrepresents it. For decades in our schools and universities now, teachers and professors have been misrepresenting, distorting and denying our history. We have almost 2 generations of young people who know nothing. Watch Steven Crowder's recent PJTV interviews of the idiots at Berkeley for some shocking evidence of historical ignorance on display at one of America's biggest laboratories for expensive partisan education .

Obama and the current Democratic party are also unbounded by facts and reality. And it's not necessarily the history, facts and reality of years ago, but whatever happened yesterday or this morning. Unfortunately we also have a media that has completely abandoned journalistic standards and is complicit 24/7 in the recreation of history, facts and reality to suit the Democratic agenda. Absolutely, the best success we've had to educate the public as to what is really going on is with little hidden cameras and YouTube. I suggest we all suit up in some disguise (it can't be too implausible) and hit the streets and our visit the offices of our senators and congressmen and other supporters/enablers/dependents of the Democratic party. We've quite a lot of work to do.

Re: Power Line - Quittin' time

Paul, I'm surprised you joined. I never could figure out exactly what benefit they could provide to me to justify their dues. Much the way I view a union. I feel capable of taking care of myself in my seniority. I think people today turning seniors are less in need of an organization like that to lobby for them, mainly because, like the Democratic party, the AARP seems to appeal to a small minority (the poor and ignorant). I hated their take on the new Social Security plan the Bush Administration promoted. I used to return their postage paid envelopes with my critical comments. This ought to be just about the final nail in the coffin of an organization that appears to be a dinosaur.

Re: Power Line - Why Does Jimmy Carter Think We're All Racists?

I predict that the "...many sleeping dogs that, over the years, the liberal media have been happy to let lie." is probably in reality a giant pack of wolves.

Re: Power Line - Dems' Strategy Crashes and Burns

You are expecting liberals to be capable of objective reasoning and logic. Surely they have proven time and time again that objective reasoning is not something they even want to master much less have the skills or abililty to do it. If you have any doubt about that just look at the legislation they have produced since they have had total control of Congress. Where is there any sign of objective reasoning and logic in the cap and trade bill?. Max Baucus's recent health care bill makes even less sense that its predecessor that they couldn't pass before the August recess. They live in a fantasy world where a guy with Teddy Kennedy's morals is revered and idolized for more than 30 years. They've spent all that time pretending he's something other than what he is. They've spent that much time pretending the environment is endangered by our supposed carbon monoxide output. They've spent that much time pretending poverty is created by not providing enough free welfare. Now, to me, this really shows no ability or desire whatsoever to be objective or logical.

Re: Power Line - Dems' Strategy Crashes and Burns

And I recall thinking well before Obama was elected that he was showing glaring signs of having all the talents that Jimmy Carter shared with us as President. And that his presence in the White House would have a similar effect on the Country and the world. A simultaneous destruction of world order and financial prosperity that will take decades to rebuild.

Re: Power Line - A Warrior for the Cause

I do think the fantastic march on Washington this past weekend was a great step towards throwing off the shackles and getting aggressive. For that many conservatives to assemble and demonstrate was remarkable in my life. It was no surprise that that event was ignored by the left. As the revolution gains momentum, expect those on the left to become increasingly agitated so that Nancy Pelosi actually breaks down and sobs dramatically. Won't that be a spectacle of wisdom and maturity we can all savor?

Re: Power Line - A Warrior for the Cause

All the comments to John's post are so terrific and I appreciate the opportunity to read what many other good conservatives believe. It's very encouraging because this is where the real brain power and entrepreneurial spirit is. As EPatrickMosman wrote above, look how many more good conservative voices we now have access to. Michele Malkin was one he didn't mention who I believe has made an outstanding contribution. Watch PJTV and hear all those folks---Bill Whittle is a standout with much that is substantial and lasting to share.

And PegC above made a good point when she noted the lack of fresh, new faces among the Democrats. They would still be spotlighting Teddy Kennedy as if he had anything new to contribute if he were still around. As it is, they are looking to replace the "Kennedy" seat with another Kennedy. How petrified in the past is that?

We owe a huge debt to Andrew and to Hannah and James for showing us a new, extremely effective path to enlightening the American public as to what is really going on within Big Government.

Re: Power Line - A Warrior for the Cause

Excellent remark. I think the guerilla actions of Hannah and James are a great beginning. As was the young man who accosted Charlie Rangel and was treated so abominally and the one who tried to question the very rude and arrogant and stupid Pete Stark. Goodness knows, there is ample opportunity to expose these people for what they are as they do very little to disguise their true nature. We just need more of these young, aggressive, risk-takers to play hardball.

Re: Power Line - Americans Repudiate Democrats' Hateful Strategy

Boy, are you thorough which is more than we can say for any of the "Palace Guards" today.

Re: Power Line - The gathering storm, part 168

I agree that everything he has touched is destructive of the America built over more than 200 years by people far better than him. It's too much of a coincidence that all of this is the work of an ignorant doofus. What he's doing will have an extremely negative impact upon our future financial and military strength. Don't you think more than 20 years of hating America and actively studying how to destroy from within might have something to do with his current behavior and that perhaps this is probably deliberate?

Re: Power Line - Another One Bites the Dust

When do we get to throw Obama under the bus?

Re: Power Line - Another One Bites the Dust

Great comment. You said exactly what I thought the moment I read that sentence about the 12% supporting Obama no matter what. You, sir, have more guts than I who was afraid to express that thought because of it would probably be considered politically incorrect. And it's very sad to see this racial war brewing. I don't think it's what most folks want. We want to get along. But for sure the liberal left has nurtured a victim attitude among several groups including blacks for decades. I think this is going to backfire for them horribly. There are too many white people who want to see any American, regardless of color, national origin, sex, etc. succeed honestly because this success is what America is all about. But to be labeled racist at every turn simply for disagreeing with policy and political methodology is not going to wear well at all with most Americans. This is just more not-so-subtle destruction of our fabric. The efforts of the left are becoming increasingly more explicit, ham fisted and ugly.

By the way, I think responding to this Caley person is a waste of time because she's in way over her head with this group. However, it makes for very entertaining reading.
