When I see that the ad asks for salary history or salary requirements, I write in my cover letter: "A recent salary survey indicates that the range for this position is $x to y." The employer reads that you are looking for the market rate, regardless of your salary history. I found out that two positions I was interested in, both at nonprofit groups, were paying 25% below the market for nonprofits, and my resume was set aside, not surprisingly.

Great post. Perhaps if you consistently use your middle initial you can distinguish yourself from these others, which is what I do. There are at least four women with my name: two in NYC, one in California who is a senior official in state housing, and one in NC. None work in Public Relations, fortunately.
