Obviously sunset and amen have never seen how crowded the busses are in the south end and all the commuters that depend on island transit daily. It is arrogant as well to assume that ridership levels are alwalys low; definitely not the case.

While I can't fundamentally disagree with this article (a first for me and WNT editorials), I can't help but wonder at at pet cemetary/crematorium pushing people out of their homes. Is there really a need, business or otherwise, for a funeral home/crematorium for humans, pets, etc.?

and what is it teaching children to just allow sencient beings to be inhumanely treated..and killed!? Well minded, I'm not promoting breaking and entering, but in this case it was very much the lesser of the two evils.... if whoever had not broken Smiley out he would not be happy and safe where he is.

If you truly have seen the clips of Smiley and read the entire story, you would see that there is significant objective evidence. That Smiley had a kidney infection is a FACT. That Smiley was not allowed to relieve himself for inhumane lengths of time is a FACT. You truly cannot categortize all of us as hysterical fanatics. There is truth to the horrid actions at WAIF and I would pray you would not ignore that. This was not just about one dog, but about the care of all homeless dogs on the island.

Just when I think the editorials couldn't be more ignorant, I sit, once again, suprised.
Not only is it ludicrous to promote reproduction in a day and age when informed aware people are trying to promote sustainable lviing on our planet, but to then, somehow, insert a slam at dog owners..well, Mr. Larsen you've hit a new low.
There are those of us who CAN'T HAVE CHILDREN and many of us who share our lives with canines, not as surrogate children, but as "life mates." AND Mr. Larsen, I am a foster parent and I can definitely tell you there are MANY people on the island who SHOULD NOT have children, but do.
I assuming you think you're witty, wry and that your "tongue in cheek" editorials are "cute", but you really might want to consider thinking prior to putting some of your messages out to the public.

Lets be real here and honest.... WAIF had NOTHING to do with Smiley getting help from a professional---DID EVERYONE HEAR THAT--WAIF DID NOT INITIATE SMILEY'S TRAINING!!!!!!
Essentially Smiley was transferred to the trainer and WAIF had no idea... now WAIF is trying to take credit for a humane event in Smiley's life. Lets be honest and real people, if it were up to WAIF Smiley would be dead. We must remain vigilent and take everything (especially what Paysee and Bibich say) with a huge grain of salt). WAIFs goal is not a happy ending cause they could have made that happan months, if not years ago

I'm just going to simply ask you to read the whole story. Your post indicates you are not familar with all the details and nuances of the case. Please familarize yourself before posting--you wouldn't then waste your time spouting WAIF propaganda and heretofore proven false statements (i.e. Smiley NEVER demonstrated hostility or demonstrated a risk to other animals and humans--even confirmed by a professional behaviorist). You need to educate yourself as well; this is so much more than "animals lovers gone wild" as you so described this. These are intelligent, critical thinking citizens who demand better from a facility that can't decide if it is animal control or a humane organization. You miss this point competely islander1995

GO AWAY. Why aren't you fighting causes instead of criticizing the causes of others? Why are you "wasting your time" making fun of Smiley supporters? Like carebear said, you and your comrades need to go save a job or save a child or something. Also, some of us have multiple causes and help humans and canines. . Forgive me for the emotional response, but this story smacks of bias towards WAIF. I would love to know the REAL story. Did WAIF REALLY contact Best Friends twice, and if so, did they describe him as a pit??? I'm also REALLY concerned about anyone WAIF considers an expert in canine behavior--for they think Carol Gannaway and Mangelsini (sp) from PAWS are experts.
I am, however, really dissapointed at the lack of attendance at the commisioner's meeting.

And spides--really tacky and immature comment. This is something many of us feel very strongly about and its not for you to judge or belittle what people find important.
