It doesn't make sense. Why pass up the shot at an open seat now and wait four years to take on an incumbent? He must really be reading the signs that it will be a Republican year next year, or else Barrett is in. Lawton is just not that formidable a candidate.

Cecil, Kevin clearly described the "temporary" nature of the appointment, and it was precisely this scenario of unelected representation that Feingold's amendment (praised by the Cap Times I might add) is supposed to prevent.
