Minor fixes on the Zorro bit: Zorro (sp), and it was the Ibis BowTi that had the pivotless flexible frame. The Szazbo is in another radavist pic of the Ibis booth.
Three cheers to you folks getting all sorts of goods and making it all look awesome. I also am related to a ton of folks who are the "no trespassing" type (and have the lands worthy of sharing), and they drive me crazy. Gonzo bike-packing is the hot ticket. When faced with "no": stealth, leave no trace, and all-smiles is the hot ticket. Thanks for pushing the envelope and for encouraging others. We may have to outlive the old way of thinking, but every little bit matters - stories like this matter. You're rad, Nicholas. The 2016 model only has 86 miles range. (not enough for me, which is why the beef).
Here's the punch line - direct from Sonoma Clean Power in a private message this morning:
"Santa Rosa VW currently does not have any 2017 models in stock. VW is only offering incentives on their 2016 E-Golf. From what we are told, they don't plan to bring any 2017 models onto their lot until the 2016's are gone."
Bait and Switch, much, Hansel Volkswagen?

Re:

A pump track is a looped series of bumps and berms that users can "pump" their bikes with their bodies such that pedalling isn't necessary. Usually, most users wheels never leave the ground on a pump track, and it's something that is suitable and fun for people of all ages. BMX, on the other hand, is a racing discipline that involves a start and a finish (not a loop) where cyclists race their bikes on a longer course (than a pump track) and frequently have jumps built in.
Folks who want to learn more about a pump track should check out the "PumpTrackSR" that was recently built with a partnership between Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks and REMBA (the Redwood Empire Mountain Bike Alliance) in Northwest Community Park in Santa Rosa:
video: http://outtheresr.com/get-p...
facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Pu...
REMBA: https://www.facebook.com/mo...

Cheers!

Re: Dick Spotswood: Bike-access protests will not help open trails

We agree that horses aren't appropriate for most trails, but two truths exist: Horse people created many of our existing networks. And equestrian use is falling to almost nonexistent levels. I'd rather help horses build and find appropriate trails than fight them. They're animals. Their poop bugs me, too, but they came before mountain bikes, plain and simple.
As far as lobbying for access: yes. Band together with folks of like mind and make a difference. Pool resources. Combine time and efforts. Doing that, I think motorized bicycle enthusiasts will find more allies than enemies. But one thing is for certain: it isn't an "e-bike" - that's a handy marketing name created by bike manufacturers. It's a motorized bicycle. As a bicycle enthusiast who has worked for years for more & better trails where I live, the very last thing I know the community I work with wants is motorized bicycles on historically horse & human powered trails. So... let's instead work together to find places for motorized bikes.
This WHOLE conundrum in Marin is about two very simple things:
Not enough trails to meet the demand, and Not enough working together for shared positive outcomes. That's all there is to it. So everyone here can either be part of continuing the problem (like Dick Spotswood, for example) or can recognize that changing things means recognizing everyone deserves to have their needs met.

Re: Dick Spotswood: Bike-access protests will not help open trails

Well, laugh it up. the fact remains that a motor is a motor. Motorized travel on trails is a long standing, broadly accepted disallowance on our most beloved and sensitive public lands. There really is no discussion here in the current context of Dick's article.

Re: Dick Spotswood: Bike-access protests will not help open trails

I get that motorized bicycles help some people, and that's wonderful... but the mountain biking community is not divided on this: Singletrack trails are for human power. If you'd like to ride a bike on them, and have a hard time, invest in improving your gearing, and accept that you can't go as fast as some others. Trails don't exist to guarantee that everyone has the same experience, or rides the same speed. Dipping your toes into *this* discussion isn't going to help the bicycle community build bridges between hikers, equestrians and bicycles, either. "E-bikes" are significantly different than bicycles - if there is a contingent of users who also demand more places to use them, then they need to mobilize their energy and lobby for access, but don't assume bicycle advocates will help anything other than lobbying for a different place. It's pretty well established, and an uphill battle, if you're suggesting anything other than human or animal powered contraptions on "trails".

Re: Dick Spotswood: Bike-access protests will not help open trails

no, no, no, no, no. A motorized bicycle - regardless of combustion type - does not belong on trails for human powered exploits. There is no apples to apples here. If you want to ride your MOTOR bike, we have roads for that, as well as places like Cow Mountain in Mendocino County. That's where MOTOR bikes belong. Which is to say - they *do* belong. If you want to ride on regional trails, however, you probably should seek improving your gearing - not slapping a motor in it.

Re:

Because nobody is thinking they need to maim "old people" over trail use. There's room for everyone (is the point) - except that the room for HUMANS WHO RIDE BIKES, USUALLY WITH YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, KIDS AND YOUR NEIGHBORS, is a little too small given how many people like to do it. We're not talking about war or drugs or your f&#king generation's propensity towards killing (yeah, that's a steamy load of manure), we're talking about how we all like to play outdoors.
