Just so you know, if you have an old Blogger account, you may not be able to blog for a while. I host my son's blog there and tried to update it last night. The click through "learn more" stuff said "some" accounts were moved over to the new version, others will be added soon. Sure hope soon means this week ... er year ... er whatever.

One little hiccup in what I think is an overall good upgrade. I manage a couple others using a different log in that I moved to beta and I like the new functionality and dashboard. Not sure if it's worth the trouble yet, but I'm sure the Google minds will make it worth my while at some point.

Mike: Yours is one of the lucky ones I guess. Again, I was able to do it on one set of blogs I manage under a different log in. My son's for some reason is in cue or something to be converted.

Andy: I'm a Wordpress user and perfer it over Blogger. Still use both though because different blogs need more or less customization and tinkering depending upon the intent/audience.

I'll report back whenever they move my son's blog over so I can use it again. Hopefully it won't take long.

As it turned out, Blogger moved my site over on Friday night/Saturday morning. Got access back, but still couldn't publish. Have contacted their support folks. Apparently they've had some minor glitches with the transition of the blogs that weren't moved over by their owners. Mine just happened to be one of them.

And --my two cents-- VOX is nice, but doesn't allow you any freedom with customization of themes, etc. I explored it for a couple of days and just found it extremely limited to what even Blogger could do. Maybe I didn't get deep enough in it, but I didn't like it much at all.

Interesting, but as I have found with creating blogs for other people, some folks get really wigged out about their info being online. Putting your family members up there without consent or disclosure could cause some problems. Does the company use the contact information you input on others? Do they sell it? Is your family tree kept private or can you make your family public without them knowing it?

I'll check it out when I get a chance, but have had some very negative reaction to adding a person as a user to a blog who was simply scared and ignorant of what the web means. I'd be leery of allowing people to post personal info about someone else.

Still, it's pretty ingenious to approach geneology like that.

I have to disagree based on the simple fact that the proliferation of media consolidation in America means at some point our news will be as narrow and targeted from two sides as our politics. This only hurts the freedoms we hold so true. Don't define us all as right or left, Democrat or Republican, conservative or liberal. At a minimum, we the American public deserve mutliple choice, not just true-false.

Edwards is right to offer the opinion and calling him politically cynical for doing so, in my opinion, is perhaps letting personal politics shine through.

I agree the potential is there, but I think many business/professional social networkers overlook the need for personal networking sites and ignore many users's desire to keep the line between work and play distinctive and ever-present. If Facebook tries to migrate to professional networking, I would think many users will stop using it altogether since what goes on in my personal network is no business of those in my professional one.

And where in all this mix does that leave journalists? Will there be large enough advertising revenues in the new cyber newsrooms to support sizable reporting staffs or is citizen journalism, blogging and the like going to run off the unbiased and unfettered?

If they all make the leap to PR like I did, who am I going to pitch stories to?

Brilliant post Chris. I am yet another one of those out there trying to find a way to qualify and quantify what we in social media do. While I've had some clear as mud test cases, I've found no true measurment (or mapping technique), but that's because my clients and I have not gone into it with the ideal end result in mind.

This is great food for thought for us and I thank you for it.

I would like to know, however, what you think are strong ways of measuring, say, the success of a blog if the goal is just to engage the greater world about our brand? Is it number or quality of comments, popularity of the blog (Technorati, etc.), product trial conversion (and how the heck do you measure that?) ... all nuances we're trying to figure out.

Here, here. Great thoughts. Including the inclusiveness issue with your daughter hits home with me. I have a two-year-old son and can sometimes dismiss including him because of his age. When I do, however, the difference is noticeable! Good stuff.

Hey J. I'd have to dig up my Myers-Briggs from a few years back. As I recall, I was an N-E-R-D. (Sorry ... lame joke.)

My current employer uses (read: swears by) the Predictive Index (http://www.piworldwide.com) which I recently trained on how to interpret. It's fascinatingly accurate with regard to the people I work with and know their scores. Wondered if you've ever encountered this one and what you thought?

Great blog topic, though. I may have to dust off my Myers-Briggs this weekend and see what I really am.
