It was in stock at the store. I was worried it may be excluded from the sale for some reason, but it turned out to be included. So, since sizes are pretty limited online, check the store next time (they seem to do these weekly on Wednesdays now).

Re: The Rare Deal: double digit, resoleable, Italian boots

I just ordered the Dark Chestnut color of these, which was only $99 BEFORE the GET40 discount. Anyone have any experience on sizing? I know with my Clarks I had to size down about a half-size, was wondering if these are the same. You don't have lists about the top uses of Twitter or Facebook or anything, yet many of your posts can readily be applied to Twitter or Facebook or your marketing weapon of choice. Some posts are "on topic," some are more "off topic," but more times than not, I walk away from reading feeling inspired about something or another, even if it's just taking pictures of feet. Probably most of all, I like that reading the posts really gives me the feeling that I'd actually enjoy hanging out with the BOF crew.

So, to flip the question around: What do you (BOF) hope to get out of writing/maintaining this blog, and has that goal changed over time?

(Definitely not meant to sound like a suspicious question in the vein of "What are you up to over there?", but more just out of curiosity).

You guys rock!

Re: NoteSlate. Whenever the employees let an "influencer" move to the front of the line, you better believe this really ticks off all of the "normal" people who have been patiently waiting.

And I think we can all agree that wouldn't be a way to take care of your customers.

Re: Should Influence Be Factored In To Social Media Customer Service?

That would be an interesting level of influence to be able to measure if you could find a way to do so. To your second point, that's definitely what I was trying to get at with the United Airlines guitar guy. You're taking a large risk in ignoring any customer with a complaint, but frankly, based on the information you know, those with lower influence are the less risky ones to ignore if you do have to prioritize.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Mike!

Re: Should Influence Be Factored In To Social Media Customer Service?

Jim, thanks for chiming in and expanding your thoughts here in the comments!

I definitely agree that using some data that is readily available is better than not using any, I guess my concern is for those people that become too reliant on things like Klout scores and not factor in some of the "common sense" factors that you mentioned in your comment.

I will say that I'm excited to see social media become more integrated with traditional customer service centers' operations. It seems like many brands are still using their community manager as the middle man, and if they can integrate it more there could be some cool possibilities there.

Re: ‘My Tweets Are My Own’ is a Bogus Line

Reminds me of beginning a sentence with "No offense, but..." You're covering your basis, per se, but they're still going to take offense to it if it is something offensive, no matter what you preface it with. I suppose from a legal standpoint, there are some situations where a statement like these could help them avoid being held responsible for your dim-witted comments, making it beneficial to them, but if you're trying to avoid your thoughts being associated with the company, it likely will not work most of the time.

Re: Get More Likes By Rewarding People For Liking Your Facebook Page

Great points, Jason. I love when brands get this "right" and use a relevant reward that gets people in the door AND also tells them why they should stick around. The eWay example is great because the report itself is helpful, but also communicates that this is what followers can expect from you on a regular basis: expertise.

From a product point of view, offering a discount or exclusive content can also have the same effect, as it says hey follow us and you'll be the first to know about promotions we have and/or we'll deliver content to you that you can't get anywhere else.

Where brands fail in doing this is by either offering a irrelevant prize (a chance to win an iPad, for example) or something that gets followers' hopes up, setting them up for disappointment (a coupon, followed up with no more coupons ever again). I think Einstein Bagels gave away free bagels like this for a short period of time, leading to huge gains in followers, and then when they ended the promo, the followers were actually ticked off that they weren't providing any more rewards for their fans.

So, I guess what I'm saying is rewards are great, just make sure they're relevant and that you follow them up with more incentives to keep them around.
