I had trouble believing this was still happening in 2016 until I read the comments. Wow!

I agree with you on everything except #2. Let me explain.

At HasGeek, we cater to first time speakers. Our mission is to encourage more people to share what they know, so we always have that open door. We also deal with significant audience sizes, between 400 to 1200, and first-time speakers bombing on stage is a thing. Speakers can also be repetitive, presenting the same intro material as the last speaker, or misread the audience and present above or below their level. So we take speaker prep pretty seriously.

For our process, we ask proposers to submit an outline of what they intend to present, put them on a video call with the editorial panel and a professional speaking coach, and if possible give them a test audience 2-3 weeks before the event. For first time speakers this is an incredibly valuable process, and we have many testimonials for its effectiveness, but to our surprise even experienced speakers find it helpful.

Re: PostgreSQL Query Optimization

Also, "nuisanced" should perhaps be "nuanced"?

Re: Think Global, Peer Local. If it happens, it will force telcos to give up their dubious schemes to swindle the public with "free internet" that isn't, and instead focus on better quality of service with no discrimination. This is what the free market is supposed to achieve.

Re: 4 in 5 Indians Supports Facebook’s Free Basics

Since the survey was conducted on behalf of Facebook, of course it was phrased in a manner that makes Free Basics look good.
