Since often times I'm working at distinct installations of the same site (locally, in a dev server, in production) I also often forget (or I'm lazy) to edit the settings.php in each of them. So what I do, is use "drush -l site.com uli". If you use completion in your shell (CTRL-R with bash, or automatically if you use fish as your shell) then it is even easier, you just type uli and autocomplete the rest =).

For the search admin menu functionality you can also use the coffee module in drupal =)

We also used email_registration module, but instead of using another module to use the email as display name, we implemented a hook that is part of the email_registration module:


function hook_email_registration_name($edit, $account) {
  return $account->mail;
}

If the space is already available why would it cost, or how much would it cost to use it? We may not even need a place with equipment, we could ask people to bring their laptops. I guess Internet could be expensive. If we could get an estimate we could crowfund as Jesus already said. =)

From what I've heard, people in Bogota are already searching alternative locations close to the event. We already have free trainers, we can ask people to come with laptop if the place does not provide machines now we only need confirmation of the space as far as I can tell.

I agree completely with you. And a training is specialy usuful in latin america since most of the people involved in the camps that I have assisted are just beginners. We have found that a training day the first day is the best way to make sure people take full advantage of the camp.

I join your brave effort and propose also a free training on views and panels with Jorge Ram and myself. Maybe other people want to join us.

Also, if the venue is a problem maybe the drupal colombia community could provide a different venue for the first day?

No todo el progreso tiene que ser hacia sistemas más complejos o con mejor arquitectura de clases e interfaces de programación. Yo creo que lo que busca backdrop al tener como mercado los sitios pequeños será otra forma de progreso (mejorar el desempeño en servidores chicos, reducir módulos innecesarios).

Lo que escribes igual me suena bien. Yo que soy programador me llama más la atención Drupal 8 que backdrop, un contador, un diseñador, un filosofo drupalero puede pensar diferente.

Que hay Carlos! Bueno, pues si he escuchado que hay iniciativas parecidas dentro de Drupal para que no se haga muy lento. Por ejemplo está https://drupal.org/node/125.... Pero no es suficiente, mejor código no significa necesariamente mejor desempeño. Drupal 8 tendrá mejor soporte para caching y para escalabilidad en muchos servidores, pero en un servidor chiquito casi seguramente va a ser más lento que Drupal 7, así como Drupal 7 es más lento que el 6.

Perdón por insistir en el punto, pero es que así backdrop muera por lo menos debe servir para que reconsideremos nuestros puntos de vista (como ya lo ha hecho).

Que hay Marc!

Aunque a mi personalmente me gusta más Drupal 8 que Backdrop, no creo que Backdrop sea evitar la innovación. Simplemente buscan mejorar pero en otros aspectos. Podríamos decir que la diferencia esta en que Drupal 8 busca mejorar en interfaces del programador, estilo del código, integración con otros proyectos fuera de Drupal. Mientras que a backdrop no le interesa nada de eso, al contrario, quiere dejar las interfaces del programador intactas, pero si buscará mejorar en desempeño en servidores pequeños, proveer un drupal más pequeño, pero también agregando nuevas funcionalidades como manejo de la configuración.

Yo creo que dan en el clavo los defensores de backdrop al decir que tienen mercados diferentes. Drupal 8 va por un mercado más empresarial de clientes y más profesional de programadores. Backdrop va por un mercado de clientes pequeños y programadores en potencia (a mi me impresiona la cantidad de contadores, diseñadores, filosofos y otros NO ingenieros que utilizan drupal).

Yes I agree that updating is really hard when doing multi-site, and we also prefer separate instances for each site, even if they share the same repository.

I second the bakery module. Shared blocks sounds good too.

Excelente Post! me gustó mucho y estoy de acuerdo en lo que dices. Es como en el servicio social, el servicio y la vida en general =P, lo que más cuesta y vale es tu tiempo. Y lamentablemente no todos nos damos el tiempo de ayudar a otros.
