We are past discussion and on to finger waving and gross generalizations. Anybody arguing against the possibility that this guy mentioned rape is now trying to "protect rapists" (at worst), or is "simply so ignorant of the grand problems in rape culture that they can't possibly understand enough to contribute" (at best). I can understand both ways to decipher what happened, but neither side will benefit from saying "You know, like a rape" or "Rape talks happens all the time in gaming lol" or "You are just a man, you don't know what's happening here."

When it's time to wave torches, the first question should always be, "what if I'm wrong?" If the dialogue on stage was not rape related, then demanding that it was seems dangerous to me. The gaming industry/culture is full of misogyny, so if it's a verifiable quote about rape then DEFINITELY string the person up. However, if it's just a misunderstanding, it either stirs up an already bubbling mass of a pot, or it might get this guy fired for nothing. No fun for anybody.

Re: Xbox One comes with a 'next-gen' Kinect sensor

I have my 360 behind the wall on which my TV is mounted, so a Kinect on the console is 100% irrelevant to me. I wouldn't mind yelling at my console more often though. Why can't we just yell at our controllers instead?

Re: Is Austin Over the Hump?

That HuffPo article was obnoxiously self-serving, imo. Although people not moving here might mean I could afford to own a house, I don't feel some shift in anything; Austin is either just as cool as it used to be, or wasn't ever anything at all.

Also, if you want to move to Houston because people say it's cooler, then yeah, move to "Houston." Also, when you get there, tell me where "Houston" is, because it was a pretty big city last time I checked. That whole metroplex is cool? Them's pretty good odds!

Re: You don’t want Google’s Project Glass

I will do it and I will be the first happy person despite good judgement.

Re: Apple Patents the MacBook Air’s Wedge Design — Bad News for Ultrabook Makers

It's not that everyone wants to copy them. Apple is being allowed to patent concepts like attaching a phone to a computer, or having a menu in a text message. Those aren't ideas that people want to steal, they are just GOOD ideas. It's like if Apple patented the naturally rectangular shape of their iPad; that isn't an Apple concept, it's a naturally GOOD idea that would occur organically for everybody.

Re: Discussion of: Paul Krugman, E.J. The only thing I can add is the theory that the negative or violent signs against Obama had the 'opportunity' to exploit race, which provides a reaction that is easier to focus on/politicize. There are definitely people forgetting that both sides compared Bush/Obama as Hitler (neither comparison making sense to me), but if the Right posted the "Bush reminds me of an Ape" and replaced Bush with Obama, I doubt it would escape the public memory for a while.

I guess, that is. I really don't remember if anybody was that upset when the Left called Bush Hitler, but it's possible that there were upset persons on both sides. I really just can't remember.

Re: Discussion of: Paul Krugman, E.J. Just something to think about.

Also, I think I remember your reference to the Town Hall meetings, but I can't recall them directly. Do you have any more concrete details or links to examples?

Re: Discussion of: Paul Krugman, E.J. Although the data is speculative, I think we would be doing ourselves a disservice to assume that one side has more violent or sensationalist members than the other. Furthermore, Bush didn't have an ethnicity to exploit, and since racism is [somehow] still prevalent in this country, it's easier to assume that Obama's detractors were more violent or widespread.

Having said that, I still can't find ample example of left-wing media promoting this kind of behavior, but I'm sure it's out there.

Re: Discussion of: Paul Krugman, E.J.
