Totally agree with you! My daughter came home saying that she has to ride in the mornings for it to count & 3 times in that week. Why play the game? They should do a random audit so that the get the real count, not the inflated count which is a lie. Fortunately as the kids get older they see through it... plus they say they get to school 10 minutes later because of the counting so most kids find rides to school for that week. Pretty sad that our transportation dept & schools are encouraging the kids to participate in a scam.

Sorry demwoman, but I know what they told me because I am currently waiting on a permit from the county. We were told when we first submitted it that the max would be 4 weeks... that has come & gone... now they say at least another month because of the request by the commisioners. If we would have known about this delay... we would have waited until next spring to start this project. I am sorry if my comment has upset you.

we were told that they aren't working permits right now because county commisioners have them writing up their "job descriptions." makes sense! Once again commisioners are out of the loop.

I hope this isn't where they are going to stick it. why not move it up the hill a little next to the stairs? this makes it look to cluttered on that corner... almost looks like the county wants to put it right in front of the other sign.

sasquatch... I agree the sign should be at kens korner... but they will have to spray paint it not whittle... the reports says it will be a METAL sign. lovely! Also it's not about cost to move the sign - the county wants us to give them money for their wasted time they have spent so far on moving a sign that no on wants moved!!! Also Helen is willing to listen but she says "she urged everyone to combine their efforts to ensure that the carved sign is preserved and protected in its new location." sounds like in her mind we've already moved the sign - so get over it. Also - it's not her fault she wasn't in the office when they made this decision. Sounds like another politician passing the buck. My question is if there are 2 meetings for this - why would she only agree to attend one of them? Something smells fishy... show the people you care & show for their meeting.

Oh my goodness - seems like everything is about this so called blog in the Times or PI. Who cares - the fact of the matter is the lack of communication on the sign. Sorry Sue but you make it sound like if we had payed attention to your blog we would have known about this sooner. Unfortunately your blog enters the sign information the day after the Record published it. Lets work together to save the sign & not worry about crushed egos.

Alex, awesome idea with the chain... unfortunately dragging a sign down the highway from their new location would create quite a stir not to mention accidents. It is an image that gives us a good giggle. My concern is the so-called commisioner we voted in has already gone back on her word of listening to the people... just like when she was on the school board. Oh well the public voted her in - now you gotta pay. enjoy.

You have got to be joking!!! Leave the sign where it is!!! With all the money they have recieved - just have Backus & McVay build another "scenic byway" sign up out of Clinton. They say that the existing sign gets less attention by the ferry - how many visitors have you asked if they have "seen" the sign welcoming them. My guess is none... just like our commisioner saying she has posted this with the public asking their opinion, NOT! I haven't seen one "application" sign near the existing sign saying they are thinking about moving it or haven't heard about any of these so called meetings. We all thought the cement pad at the bus stop was for a new bus shelter. so is the next plan? Putting in a parking lot there so the visitors can take their picture without causing a traffic jam? So if these people want a scenic byway sign - why would they put a new one by the so called visitors building by Naomi's? This is just one big joke!!! Plus like Backus says - the existing sign is too fragile to move. JUST LEAVE IT!

I am glad to see that Bridget has taken a break... everyone needs to read the guidelines above before attacking each other in these posts. I think it would be wonderful if HPJ & the others refuse their raises. If they can't (hands are tied) then they certainly can donate that $3,700. to a charity. I know that the Good Cheer food bank always has needs to fill for our families on the Island. Guess we'll have to just wait & see what our elected officials are really like.

it doesn't take money to dust & pull items that have "expired." that is just common sense. If the lettuce looks "dead" it usually is. Would you serve your family slimey lettuce -- let alone purchase it that way?

Mr. Springer has no one to blame other than himself & his managers. Both stores are deplorable... it is the only store I have ever shopped in that I HAVE to check the "past pull dates" before I purchase the item!! I hope Goosefoot puts in something along the lines of Trader Joes.... although anything would be better than the Red Apples we've been dealing with.

need to check the facts - Record says she has 4 daughters but her website says 2 boys & 2 daughters. Doesn't seem like a hard thing to get straight...
