The thing is, the "turn the other cheek" thing only works when you are dealing with a somewhat reasonable person, not a narcissist or possessed person. It also isn't fair to turn the other cheek when someone else is getting hurt by the villain.

I know exactly what's happening here.

He's the one who cheated long ago, and it deflecting it onto his ex partner. He's controlling and abusive and making her feel like she's being watched by a hawk. Her female friend he's angry at is someone who's trying to enlighten her about William's bad behavior. He is jealous of Kevin because Kevin is a good human being.

I'm sorry but slavery was always wrong and always hurt the slaves, and was obviously causing them misery. No amount of societal "brainwashing" can make that fact any less obvious and so, yes, we should hold them to our standards.

Also, they are not "today's" standards. They are simply objective standards of good and bad. Slavery was always wrong, not just wrong by today's standards.
