There is a save the children fund, why not a save the prostitutes Organization? It is a fine idea but from what I understand India doesnt like it when well meaning non-Indian Christians go in and attempt such "help". And with good reason, the missionaries tare up villages and families in the name of their faith. (they do terrible cult like things in the name of conversion) Something like aid to the prostitute must be motivated from within, perhaps assisted from without.

But in the larger picture if everyone could/would give a fraction of their earnings the entire world might be better run, as long as the corrupt persons weren't allocating tasks.

true that. I have tried to figure out a starting theory for the fixing of that ambition of mankind to better himself. But find it is highly subjective, and easilly sucumbs to repetitive negitive suggestion. When you find a person with a good working theory on that matter, it will hardly stand the riducule of the outsider who resists the attempt at the practice. Yet when you find five or more following the theorm, you have a cult whose method of practice cant be applied to outsiders. Then I have my fourth mental break down of the day and watch some Law and Order instead.

What a shame. Poverty is easy to fix. Why with the application of genuine humanity and logical planning and just a touch of compassion for our fellow man we could devise economic systems and level out the standards of living common to all , organise, educate and liberate all humans form disease and ignorance.

Naturally implimenting such a system of integrity would take time. I mean humans are raised up on the maxim..."it is it too good to be true, then it isnt" . It might take a long time to condition people to favoring intelligence over manipulation.
Maybe someday, if greed, and power could be left out of the equasion for a change. But you know.... that's totally unrealilistic....

damn that Moses.... he left a few verses out. first off, the husband isn't supposed to touch his wife untill the spell is complete and it can take 5 to 9 months for the belly to swell and thighs was a typo.......but comon guys you know how it looks esp after the swelling goes down.

I have to concur with Paul that , at least where I am it is the religious who cling to the steps. But I mean that in terms of the program itself, they are dogmatic. I am agnositc, and philosphical I can see the word god and mentally insert all mannor of subsitution that helps me work the step as a prinicple as it may or may not apply.

What I encountered is that if you where not passionate about your recovery as they are and in the prerscribed mannor, *you weren't doing it right.* And they gave me much trouble with taking my recovery at my own pace. For example I was ready for step 4, making amends, but they would not let me work there untill they knew I had a higher power, and that I have surrendered myself to it. I refused to agree that I was powerless against my trouble.

It was uncomfortable. And if personal progress or insight was gained, but NOT according to the program, it was one other .... *'attaboy that turned into an oh shit*

The thought stopping techniques, the slogans, and the lack of individaul or intelectaull honesty.

It might have drove me to drinkin.

amen amen! If I may, for those who would be interested, there is a large set of webpages dedicated to breaking down and exposing the very cult-like psychology of 12 step programs, groups, and education on the very many real cults whose cover story is "rehabilitation".

I understand that there are bound to be a few (even atheist) who will defend such groups but in the interest of fair representation I whould think that even the atheist ought not be opposed to divergence of oppinion.

I found these pages very educational for understanding propiganda and cult techniques. As well as a historical expose on AA in particular.

I agree... the nice clean endings seemed too perfect, what are these super parents endowed with the Lord's graces. And I find that a week is hardly enough time to earn changes in your average human.
I mean if I was Ms. Kir-somthing, I wonder how she over come her rage and pride so smmothly ( read what was off camera)......so expertly that she was able to allow the lesson to change from 'don't disobey', to 'one really ought to be respectful and mouse down instead of storm out when they need to go process'. *hope that some off as sarcasim*

Oh and i take issue with that little fight. She had been disrespectful by trying to enforce the term dad, and they should have stopped to listen to his feelings on the matter.Becasue the Dad-dude was right you cant git respect without offing it, it doesnt matter who give it first but that it is available to anyone when needed. and kid dude needed it. But then opnions are what they are.

But for all the stagesness, this tidy little series is providing feul for my writing.... people do like tidy stories.

I enjoyed your oppnion about being too staged screws with the veiwers ability to suspend disbelief convincingly.

Id personally believe in the silent hug more than the group leader's responce. Basically he had to keep things moving along before class let out for service.
Wether or not he sympathised or goes thru his bouts with doubts, he could not open the floor to be swept away with the other class mates ' devil' oppnions. Did he offer to be there for a chat after class? I doubt it.

I have been offered the after class chat before, only to be told how difficult chrisianity is for those of us who think too much. So the best thing is to accept that it was an act of noble silence, where i feel more epathy from your brother who knows you. And who may even been seeking "the lord's timing" (read: that special moment you both connect where he might try to understand you or share good words)

ya know you are probably right about that. I did alot of study about cults and the mentalities involved (leaders/methods etc) and it is rather frieghtening to me in religion there is seldom one without a psycho-know it all.
i just hope ghandi was sane.....because i still like his spirit. I hope we might take the good from the many holy books and refuse to acknowledge that nasty psycho parts.

i haven't heard or concidered this before. Immediately i got the picture of a bunch of people standing around circumcizeing themselves, waring sackcloth and repenting, stoning wifes, butchering cows, thanking and praying for the mercy of.... a volcano. (why not water instead- desert)

Flash over to the land of the Aztecs............hummmm....evidence enough for some that they had the holy one also then.

I mean no wonder god likes smelling dead burnt bodies.....all that lake of fire stuff.

It always stuns me when i "realize" that even christianity is simple ancient "pagan" systems. Even the great noble jews, worshiped sticks and rocks after all.

weird. what is worse is when i realize again that we havent changed all that much. just renamed it all.

But thank the professors that we arent woshipping volcanos.......(so are we to expect the yellowstone national park is the second comming or somethin?)
