Right, they are a shareholder -- and a quite important one at that. Not to be too pedantic, but "Sberbank is owned by the Bank of Russia" IMHO implies a 100% ownership, which is untrue.

it's monopoly money with controlled supply, ready convertibility and non-repudiation of transactions, among other things, so it's really not monopoly money at all, if you care to think about it

Main thing is that Google knows these things about you rather than the content itself. So you don't need a new ad network, you just use that data in the AdSense targeting algorithms as user profile. Why would a new blog advertising network be needed?

SOA is typically thought to be for the big boys, but you make an excellent point about service orientation for startups. I tend to think of this as component-based vs. monolithic architectures, rather than vertical vs. horizontal. A service then is just a type of component accessible via network.
