The point here is that they are mostly first or second books in a series; they try and get you hooked so you buy the sequels.

Other publishers have started to make some of their works available via webscriptions as well. The price point is usually considerably cheaper than buying the dead-tree equivalent.

An alternate model that magazines may look at (if they have not already) is lulu.com; publishing on demand for outdated / back-issue content could work, given they already have the logistics tail in place...

Re: D&AD Members’ Survey: impact of the recession on creative business

I read that last point a bit differently from the analysis; a cost effective solution that allows the creative / designer to extend their ability to deliver content to their clients.

In other words, a cost-effective infrastructure play that cuts down on the grind-stuff... overhead, admin, drudgery... and boosts either productivity and/or allows creative to leverage what they can deliver. Allows the creative / designer to differentiate themselves based on metrics the clients care about; i.e., getting more with less, or at least more with the same.

Re: Business vs. Art... well, you need to pay the bills, especially in tough times. Art is what you do for other designers; business is what you do for your clients... and _their_ customers. ;-)

Interesting times.

Re: Remembering on a wall

Back then Mike, they were called Equerries or servants.

Have a great day! :-)

Re: This is the day when all Canadians around the world go on strike to show what a superpower Canada really is…

Happy C-Day Michael,

The usual; beer, bbq and fireworks.

Regards,

Mark

Re: Visualize your delicious tags in a cool way

http://flickr.com/photos/im...

I'm obviously a more political animal... :-)

Re: Circled ring in Union Square

Out of curiosity, any cops around?

Re: Nothing Happened Today

Ha ha!
