No money, no trust, no time, no support, no materials, no assistance, no GATE... you're right, the only reward we get is thanks from kids and parents... and I didn't even get that this year. Instead I got parents who thought they knew what should be taught or how it should be taught and when I pushed their kids they thought I was pushing "too hard." I had students who were rude and had a complete lack of self-control and respect. In summary, I didn't even get the "thank you's" from parents and students.
Next year I'm teaching 2nd grade, which is a relief. This last year I taught 6th grade - never again! So I've been hoping that this upcoming year will be better, but as I read your posts and talk to more of my fellow teachers, I'm not so sure 2nd grade will be all that much better. Depressing.
