Excellent news! These'll be the first episodes I've watched as they've aired, having caught up a few months ago.
Seems to be one of those shows which, like the Wire, seems to be picking up fans through the DVDs and mouth of word. I know a bunch of people who have started watching the show in the past year. Shame that, as you say, it's never been given a good timeslot in the UK.

'TV's greatest show' - Huge claim! I know you weren't too much of a Wire fan but you prefer to Mad Men then?

I'd love it if you one day did a 'top ten shows ever' feature or something. Obviously it's entirely subjective but I'd quite like to know yours.

Haha yeah it's hard to see anyone liking Betty, the writers have made her pretty unlikeable, and her story lines seem the weakest in the show to me

Sally's becoming quite a good character - thought her Betty her mum about don's angry reaction was a good touch. Precocious but still.
And Bert is brilliant. The bit after he finds out Rodger is getting divorced, checks his watch and says 'already?'. Classic!

Plus we've already had a car accident as a plot point in the first series (Unless that was foreshadowing..). Maybe they'll go really dark and Pete will turn his often-talked about gun on himself... but I doubt it.

Yeah I read the lift as a representation of Don being disconnected from the young New York, and also generally being literally trapped in his job and it's routine. Kind of went hand in hand with Danny talking about the job being meaningless and time consuming.

Really brilliant episode I thought, probably my highlight of the season so far. And it was worth every penny of the reported 250k fee for tomorrow never knows at the end. Terrific.

Can't see Pete dieing, there rarely tend to be deaths on MM, which makes a nice change for a big American drama. (Though its fairly likely I'll stand corrected on that!)

Agreed. Kinda odd that the best episodes of Lost (Like this one and the Dessy one from s4) can sometimes focus only on the more minor characters.

Anyhoo, glad to see Dessy back and having a good role in things. Lost back on track for me.

Yeaah get the Lost ones out earlier I reckon. The kinds of people still bothering to watch it are the kinds of people who download it anyway I reckon.

And likewise, I had no idea the font had changed haha.

On a side note, I caught up with FF the other day... swear I must be the only person on the planet still enjoying it.

Very much the marmite episode. Everyone seems to love or hate it. Apart from me who is indifferent. For such a much-hyped episode (We've been waiting for an Alpart episode since he first appeared) it was, as you say, more than a little predictable. I wasn't even that amazed by Carbonell's performance, though it was probably just Alpart's character, who came off pretty weak and easily influenced, instead of the badass I thought he was. Well anyway, with that many awnsers you can't really complain I guess.

Good point about the whole cabin-ash-circle-thing, forgot about that completely! Hope they address it...

Yeah, I think they tried to justify it by Pandora sneaking in the line 'I may have taken a couple of extra exams' or something, but it was pretty unconvincing.. their whole ending was pretty silly as you say.

Haha likewise, I'm toward the older end... every series that passes and I'm starting to feel weird watching it! A new cast is very much needed yeah, I'm sure the newly-watching 15 year olds and whatnot are bound to enjoy it regardless

I did have a fairly poor seat - middle of the cinema but right at the side - but the friend who I went with, who was sitting next to me, had no problems so I don't think it was that. Would have been interesting to see if sitting in the middle would have helped though.

And faair enough.. tHL is the kind of film that I'll probably never actually get round to watching, partly merely because it's an army sort of film (I think) which doesn't particularly interest me. Eager to see Up before I get it spoiled though.

On a random note, having sat through the whole thing it really was a surprise to see Hurt Locker take it - there was so many digs at Avatar through the ceremony that I thought they'd have to give it best picture to make up for it. But alas! Cameron can't have been thrilled..

It's hardly emporer's new clothes as it's so fashionable to slate Avatar.

Still, for me, for whatever reason the 3D didn't work - blurry and buggy - I'm slightly colourblind so think that could possibly be why. But yeah, still thought it was an OK film, even if the best part of it - the visuals - was largely lost on me. Nice to see it didn't take the Picture Oscar though.

I stayed up and watched it all (had an essay to write and found a stream online so figured I may aswell) which was generally quite a massive waste of time, what with there being pretty much no surprises. + I had to tolerate Claudia Winkleman doing the Sky stuff inbetween..

Should probably watch The Hurt Locker... and Up...

That's definately true (although that said I don't think I've ever watched two episodes in a row, merely one per night) it's hard to see anyone sticking with it after the first few episodes of the first season; with no 'best show evaar' claims to keep people going.
Just started the third myself, which is looking good so far. I adored the second anyway, you're in for a treat! I advise watching with subtitles on, makes watching much easier I think.

Aye, I like that theory I do. Could be interesting to see if any of the other Losties lost anything on the flight.

Also interesting to think retrospectively back to Locke drawing pictures of the smoke monster when he was young. Foreshadowing I suppose.

As for the chains - either metaphorical now that Jacob's dead or, more likely, Black Rock

As for Sayid, I heard a theory somewhere that Sayid being brought back to life might have some sort of reprocussion on his life in the other timeline. Exciting episode in any case!

One thing that I've never understood about American shows is the ratings... I mean, BSG, if I recall, never had more than a couple million viewers and yet it must have been roughly as big a budget as flashforward and other such dramas are...

Mainly the ridiculous fans, reasons I've heard include
- boycotting all things BSG as a result of the series finale not explaining absolutely everything
- The focus on family drama as opposed to sci fi battles and such
- being disappointed to find that the cylons originated out of an angsty teenager
+ Probably other silly reasons

I think there's probably a good few BSG who aren't watching Caprica on principle, which is a shame considering it's pretty good as a stand alone series. 1.4 million isn't awful anyhow.
